I’ve always had this thought, but I assumed it was impossible. I remember finding a video of “doom on the nes” that was just a computer inside a cartridge a while ago. However, I recently came across this video. Which was really interesting to me. This could apply to really any retro handheld, but are these types of flashcarts viable generally? Could they work sort of like the DS ram expansion pack for very much theoretical homebrew? Or just use the 3DS as a method to display content similarly to the video shown Using the DSTWO.

Also, this isn’t a beg thread. I would assume very well that anything like this, if possible would be extremely time consuming for little reward, but it’s interesting as a thought experiment in my opinion. I don’t think there are any “3DS” DSTWO-like flashcarts out there to my knowledge.

The DSTWO seems to have been the product of a uniquely competitive marketplace. No one would go to the expense of making something like that for the 3DS when a five-year-old smartphone is already considerably more powerful, especially considering the 3DS did not sell nearly as well in comparison to the original DS/DS Lite/DSi.

Thats what I assumed. The fact that you probably could fit something more powerful than a 3DS in the cartridge is relatively interesting to me though. However I don’t foresee it happening cheaply enough for mass production, for little interest other than homebrew modders who could just do stuff on the switch.
