Hacking Best newsgroup reader/tips on setting up?

Now, just use newzbin and also sabnzbd make sure to grab greasemonkey (use w/ firefox) and install this plugin SABnzbdQuietClick

I also use this skin Nova for sabnzbd.

Now sabnzbd is written in python, and runs right in your browser. It looks like this


nice isn't it? So all you do once you have everything installed and setup is goto v3.newzbin.com find what you want to download, and click lvxd or just lvx. (lvxd will download,test the pars, repair, extract, and delete the rar's, lvx will just download, test, repair and extract, but leave the rars)

Couldn't be easier.

Download a nzb file
Get Newsleecher and set it up with the username/password
Open the nzb file and start downloading?

Is there some free server or do I have to pay to download? Is Giganews the best and do I pay every month or do they charge me automatically?

As for the second half...

The only really "free server" you're going to find is your ISP... Depending on your ISP you might just be in luck. Verizon outsources to giganews, so their NSP is RIDICULOUS. Cox has great retention these days (something like 70 days worth of files), but speeds are pretty limited.

When talking about the best, that is a tough question. As for the highest quality, Giganews wins hands down. They have the longest retention, highest uptime, and least restrictive rules. Giganews also costs a million dollars. Cheaper alternatives are newshosting.com and usenetserver.com . I've been using newsgroups for almost 4 years now... and I bounce between NH and UNS. I share accounts, and eventually NH catches on, and then we got to UNS for awhile, and vice versa. Most NSP (news service providers) charge monthly, or small discounts if you buy in 3/6/9 month chunks.

To sum it all up, it is going to be the best 15 bucks you've ever spent.

I just tried to use the newsgroup service through my ISP (dslextreme). I tried to use newsbin, and it say the download bandwidth is 500kbps? Does it mean that my download speed is just around 60kb/s? It's just a little bit faster than torrents. So there maybe some restriction.

My girlfriend is using verizon as her ISP, i will try.

I have Verizon DSL and i love the fact that i get free access to the newsgroups. Sadly though I dont seem to get the best access to ALL the groups, and my retention is only like 10 or so days. I want more but am too cheap to pay extra lol

I used to use grabit when I did usenet. Very easy to use for downlaoding. My isp used to have free usenet, but I'm in Canada and they have a monopoly so they can do whatever the hell the want and thus they axed usenet since they're cheap bastards.

I did pay for giganews a few times and I may have to go back since this dumbass isp throttled torrents to hell. I just don't want to pay the subscription fee for usenet.
