I am still deciding between a wode and a softmod . I have read wode loads faster than a virgin wii and softmod slower. My question is does this mean actually loads the game when you first start it up off the hdd or does it mean loading times within games (eg: when you level up or change screens/rooms or whatever). And if so how slow is slow?
Thanks for any help with my query.

softmod if you want wii games wode if you need harddrive gamecube support. but for the money you could probably buy the few gamecube games you'd actually want to play.

Softmod USB loading speeds are as good as it gets; I see no reason to buy a WODE. If you want GameCube games, just use NeoGamma. If you have a newer Wii and don't have the option of playing GameCube DVD backups, buy a WODE or an SDGecko.

I don't think it affects load speeds in game, it might increase the speed of initial boot-up, because it mirrors an actual disc in the disc tray, but other than that I don't think it increases the speed of loads in the game.

-Personal experience with discs and through backup loaders.

Thanks for your reply. So using a softmod with a hdd usb drive does not slow down load times within games noticeably ?

As long as you are using the right cIOS (249dx56 recommended), then you will have blazing fast loading speeds with your softmod USB loading.

actually USB 2.0 load speeds are as fast as 8X read speeds you do see a noticable decrease in load times over the disc loading options. as for retail discs they load at 6x speed Wode speeds are all 6x If I'm not mistaken. I assume that based on the fact that the wode loads games through the same exact hardware that the discs do so I would assume it has the same speeds. If you wish to go with a mod softmod is by far better IMHO. It may require a hardware adapter to play GC backups but it's chaeper and the wii titles are actually loaded faster.

usb loadig speed should be theorically 44x
In the wii it can get 18x speeds
