i am totally confused that every1 wants to play strikers allthough it received no good reviews, mediocre @ best...

my first post (cuz I'd love to really try out this game without the headaches of hanging loading screens 70% of the time). PS, I'm a senior developer (not in this project, never coded for the wii before) but am very interested and excited about the work done here, well done everyone!

ok, back to my point about Mario Strikers Charged and the interest in this game:

look at this link and tell me again that "it received no good reviews, mediocre @ best"

Merriam-Webster Dictionary's definition of Mediocre: "of moderate or low quality, value, ability, or performance : ordinary , so-so".

Um, doesn't look like mediocre reviews to me. Aside from the typical wide range of review opinions, the average is 79% (I'd say mediocre is more like 30-50%; generally that word is used to describe something less than average, not very good, not even as good as average IMHO).

Now this should be fun, and I apologize that my first post isn't actually helpful or interesting and is basically off topic for this development-progress thread. Ok, everyone say "Welcome to the board dkelley, now stop being an obnoxious a**hole please". ;-)

heh heh

cheers :-)

EDIT: never mind LoL, so you actually think that mario sluggers is mediocre eh? again...

look here and see the scores. there are a few lower ones so the average is down, but I see several in the 70% to 80% range, and I personally LOVE that game. If 2k's baseball supported motion control for the main game I'd love it too, but it doesn't, so if I'm going to play on the wii with my wife/kids/friends then I'd rather have motion control thanks.

Both great games. I think sluggers isn't too popular with some hardcore baseball fans but it's a freakin blast to play with someone else.

ok, above average then...

So to sum it up, correct me if I'm wrong:

Read speed problem is a hardware limitation because it goes to 3x as soon as the DVD-ROM read command is given.
In the current backup-loaders, the DVD-ROM read command is given.
In Waninkoko's updated (private) loader, he uses no such command, instead he uses the Wii disc read command.
Which, in turn, lifts the limitation on read speed. (although it is still hardware-limited on DVD-ROMs)

Is there some cloaking involved here, like a piece of code that tells the wii 'DVD-ROM = Wii disc' before it checks which kind of disc is in?

What he is saying that regardless of speed (3x or 6x) the wii will load the game properly because of the "wii disc read" command. The softmod needs to use "DVD-ROM disc" read command.

I think waninkoko is saying using the wii disc command would fix loading issues well there you have it he's still helping
out 1st the dip module now telling us about the wii disc command vs dvd-rom disc command ingenious someone needs
to figure out how to code the wii disc command in the wiigator loader unless he's already doing so

Note he says Using the Wii disc read command my read function works perfect the function in his unreleased loader
project..... If waninkoko can do it you guys can to good luck.......

Thnx Waninkoko....... Keep Going!

Really? wow, kewl. How many times did strikers' "Loading" screen appear (since it's at the end of that screen's operation that strikers randomly hangs with the 0.1a loader)?

Dont suppose you have a copy of Tiger woods 09 you can try ? I cant get that going on my non modded wii at all.

oh yeah, a quick note - burning at 8x or 16x on mass produced generic dvd- works fine for me on all games so far. It's a 100 stack that's 3 years old, running low now, was really cheap, discs/burns are all fine. so don't worry about being too picky - but then my dvd writer may be working well with these discs by fluke or something like that.

... sorry about the PINK screen post (it was actually pink not green, PINK, lol)

Actually, I'm getting a Purple (almost pink) screen now after the "Strap your Wiimote on tight!" screen when running Mario Party 8.

It's worked before, several times.

The Purple screen happens on BOTH Waninkoko's and WiiGator's loader.

Not that this is relevant anymore... but maybe he's not truly color blind after all?

Welcome dkelley!

Good luck Waninkoko and WiiGator! The community truly appreciates your restless nights!

nothing else to do right now, except of listening to an audiobook and hitting the f5 button

ppc_gba hacked it together.
What exactly does it do?
he changed a memory-address used in the loader. the address used initially, was overwritten by some games and caused them to crash. so a address-range unused by any game was a suggested solution and it seemed to work. at least for some games.

am i right here? like i said i am no coder

Just a little question, my backups are WiiScrubbed, can i patch these backups without problem or should i re-dump ?

Thanks !

And another note, even for wiiscrubbed isos and for isos that are fairly large - they all seem to end up being the same size after having been run through the wiiloader iso creator tool. something like 3.99gb more or less for every file. They work, but if you see that and wonder where your data went or came from, don't fret. It is likely by design and doesn't seem to affect things afaik.
