Gaming Asus eeepc 4G or Everex Cloudbook?

Unless you can't wait very long or theres a significant change in price, the MSI Wind is the way to got. It has a full sized keyboard, a 10 inch screen, an atom processor (which means an increase in speed and efficiency), and the linux version (as far as we know) will only cost $400 all in a package slightly bigger then the EEE. That being said, the EEE is a fantastic machine, very sturdy, and not outclassed until the MSI Wind came along. I'd advise against the cloudbook, nonconventional mouse, no wrist resting area, and ugly as sin.

Except its the Silverthorne Atom, which benchmarks show to be 1/2 performance of a Celeron.

Yes but seeing as the EEE's celli is clocked at 900 Max and the atom from the wind is at 1,6 GHz there isn't much of a difference (aside from less power demanding Atom) in terms of processor. Hence why I suggested it too.

The wind isn't out yet so its hard to say. The cheap linux version is supposed to have battery life on par with the cloudbook / EEE, but the more expensive XP version has a supposed 6 hour battery life. The cloudbook uses a hard drive (forgot the size, probably 80GB) and 1GB of ram (may be lowered on linux version) and should be a little faster then the cloudbook and EEE. Idk about the boot speed

I just checked out the specs, the wind is out in two days, so thats good timing. The linux version has lower battery or same as the eee. If i am getting the EEE, im not getting the 900. Im getting the 4G(not surf)
The only selling point to me of the wind is the screen size and resolution. The ram is the same but it only has 667 mhz, compared to the eee's 900 mhz.
I also heard there is not scrolling on the trackpad, but this is not confirmed.

You have to wait the ATOM, probably the same price but better battery time and performances.

out of box, the MSI Wind has a little under 800mhz clock

Well, i wont spend more than 400, and i know atom eee will be more than that, so i guess ill get the eee 700. unless the msi is better

EDIT:I am deciding not to get it untill the MSI wind is released, two days from now. I hope tat the boot time is fast. That would be the big selling point for me. Thanks guys for helping me out, but i wont be able to show off a EEEPC tomorrow.

I guess having a 10 inch screen is better. I hope the MSI will be able to play StarCraft.
The full size keyboard will also be awesome. If the boot time is under 30 secs, i will get the wind.

As someone said earlier, the ATOM in the MSI Wind is slower than the Celeron in the EEE

That said, I can run Starcraft + Brood Wars fine on my EEE 4G w/ 2GB Ram (no overclocking needed)

Do you absolutely need something that is a full clamshell laptop? The WiBrain B1L is pretty sweet. I'm getting one as soon as I can sell my PSP. It has a VIA processor, but from what I've read it is fairly speedy and GREAT for 3D rendering. It is one of the cheaper UMPCs and also one of the best. 1.2 GHz VIA C7 processor, 512 MB or 1 GB of RAM, 30 GB or 60 GB HDD or different sized SSD, uber high resolution touch screen, split backlit keyboard with decent tactile feedback, bluetooth (in the Windows version), 1 USB port and all just over 1 pound. You can get it with Windows XP or Ubuntu Linux (without bluetooth, but for $150 cheaper). It also has a really nice DVD+-RW docking station with 4 more USB ports, 4in1 SD card reader (MMC, XD, SD, MS) and all sorts of other ports. There is also a car mount which adds GPS to it. It also has a Synaptics touch pad, scroll and mouse buttons, interpolated screen modes, and a swivel out webcam. Definitely the best UMPC for its price.

While I guess UMPC's must be nice, the eeepc is actually small enough for me to reach all the keys with my thumbs and is still very light. Having a normal keyboard when needed is another significant advantage but both systems are viable options I suppose

/me needs to do a good google later. As far as I remember the atom used is the Diamondville 1,6GHz, a fsb of 533MHz and L2 cache of 512kB.

Yeah, the split keyboard takes a little while to get used to it. Once you get used to it though, it's not so bad. Most people can't stand the split keyboard at first, but after about a week or two, it's as good as a regular thumb keyboard.

I WILL NOT get the eee 901, for it is like 600 bucks. Not in my price range at all.
I will wait until the MSI Wind comes out to play around with it. I hope the linux version will be fast. I still can't decide to trade off for a bigger screen and Atom. I think i will though.

Well varying places say conflicting things so I'm saying what the majority is saying. The notebook is almost released anyway so we can just wait.

Yea, its released tomorrow. I hope J&R has it, it is the closest store to me. I wont go through the trouble of ordering a laptop if they dont have it.
