My old faithful Wii is no longer launching games and I'm not sure what's going on. When I insert a disc, once it appears to have read the disc, I get a full screen generic error stating "An error has occurred." The same happens when trying to launch a game from my external hard drive. I'm really not sure what to even check since the error is so generic. The disc drive sounds healthy as day 1 and injects/ejects without any struggle. The laser looks perfectly clean as well. What should I check? Is this a common issue?

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ went ahead and reseated the optical drive cables and cleaned the laser again just in case and now we're back in business. Nothing to see here. ;-)

Or in this case, you didn't plug it in properly.
