I'm at the hospital. My mother had headaches for two weeks. I couldn't get her to go to the doctor. She is an older woman, been treated for her cancer for 5 years now. Today it was very bad after I got home. It kept getting worse. She became increasingly confused. I called an ambulance. I followed behind. I've been here since 3:00 AM.
im worried and scared.

its a brain tumor

I thought it was an infection that wouldn't go away because she went to chemo and didn't go to the doctor for antibiotics.
She kept saying, "I have such a headache." I told her she should go to the doctor.
Over time, because she didn't go to the doctor and said it 20 times a day, it started to annoy me. I thought to myself, "Don't bother me," and I was angry with her for not going to the doctor.
I will never be able to forgive myself for this.

the surgery was supposed to be 14:30 today, she was ready and they had already pushed her bed out into the hallway when they said we got bumped to monday.
An emergency had come in.
its going to be so early on monday morning that i wont be able to be there for her or even see her.
i understand that saving someones life, in a critical situation HAS to take priority, but thinking of her all alone on monday, at 7am, tears me to shreds.

Don't be so hard on yourself. Based on your post above, the surgery will be tomorrow morning, yes? Even if you're not able to be there due to work or school or whatever, there's really nothing you can do at that time for her. It will be after that she will needs you more, so prepare yourself for that. Good luck to you and your mom, hope everything they do is a success.

surgery took over 9 hours instead of 4 hours. no one can tell me why.
My mother has been out of surgery for 40 minutes. She is still on the ventilator. A CT scan will be performed six hours after the operation. I can call again tomorrow at 8:00 AM. If everything goes well, she should begin to wake up gradually by then. i really, really hope she will wake up and be okay.

over one and a half days later she is now awake.
She is confused and in pain, but alive.
a part of her brain (the one that started bleeding post-op and required a second surgery during the night) is swollen.
the right side of her body is partly paralyzed. the Doctor suspects this could get better in time when her brain heals.
i can visit her today.
my hands are shaking.

So glad to hear she has come through it, baby steps now. Sending you both love to make it further 😊
