So, I'm doing an arm9loaderhax install service.

Currently have one system that I finished setting up but is still in my possession.

Have another system that someone sent me to see if they DSiWare Downgraded correctly. Looks like they didn't.

I may try to do it myself, but I don't have admin access on my computer.

(PSA: telling one to "get" admin access or to use a different computer, uh, won't help much)

Does any of the PC apps during the process require admin access?

I don't own the computer; I can't just jump and use it whenever I want. So in an attempt to not waste the little time I have on it, I posted here.

I'm rereading the guide, I'm not even sure if you need a PC? I'm pretty sure you did before. Regardless, though, some clarifcation would be nice.

Also, I have no NNID on either device, so I can easily restore the first system by restoring a NAND backup, right?

Yeah I don't think you need Admin powers.
You may need stuff like python installed but with the new guide I don't think so.
The computer is mainly for ferrying files between your hard drive, the 3ds, and the internet.

If you want, try finding a Virtual Machine application that doesn't require admin permissions to install. Then, install a Windows-based OS and use a key or do whatever with it, and then you can do tasks that require admin access without having admin access!

Only kool kids run OSes inside of their OSes.

Last question.

I have no NNID on 3DS #1.
Since I'm returning this 3DS to someone else in two days, can I simply buy the game on 3DS #1, DSiWare hack and install the 10.4 FIRM on 3DS #2, then use a NAND backup immediately on 3DS #1 after formatting 3DS #2?

(To fully revert the hacked 3DS to normal state)

If you had an NNID on 3DS #1 you will lose access to it, so won't be able to use the eShop or any service that requires you to logon anymore. And then if you do anything that makes the console realise it doesn't own the NNID anymore (in an attempt to get back on the eShop etc), you'll lose access to any bought games. If you started with an NNID, better to get your customer to wait seven days so you can recover it.

Yes it will. I made a sysNAND dump right before doing the DSiWare downgrade from my source DS and just restored it with Decrypt9 when everything was done. All my stuff was untouched. The target DS of my customer DID have his NNID linked but after downgrading and formatting (the last time) I re-linked his NNID since it was still tied to his system server-side it worked just fine.

I just had a thought. What would happen if:

- you get a <11.0 console with bought or pre-installed games on it, with no NNID
- you put a9lh on it and backup the NAND
- you system transfer from another console with an NNID onto it, then wait seven days, and transfer back so the console that used to have games now has none (as they got merged with the NNID of the transferring system and taken back with it)
- you restore the NAND backup. Are these games back to being associated with the console?
- now what if you do the same thing with a different 3DS with an NNID (transferring onto it to merge, and transferring back off)? Will those games follow it?

What I mean to ask, is when a game is associated with a console (because it was bought with no NNID) or is not associated with anything at all but will just work anywhere (a pre-installed game), does that copy of the game have some sort of unique identifier so that Nintendo servers can tell that it has been associated somewhere else, or not? So that you could give infinite numbers of people (subject to the seven-day rule) copies of games?

I can actually test this out soon. I bought an o3DS console with Ambassador status recently, and have system transferred it to an N3DS so that I can then transfer my N3DSXL to it (after seven days), then transfer back again (after another seven days) to gain Ambassador status for myself. I will make a NAND backup of the N3DS (which I put a9lh on) before I do this then transfer back, and make an NNID on another spare N3DS and do the same thing again, to see if I can give that NNID Ambassador status also (how cool would that be!).

That's a good question. Although I wonder how the server would associate the purchase with another 3DS without using an NNID, since isn't that how they retrieve the pre-installed/installed tickets?

I'm not sure how it works server-side, but you can transfer without an NNID to another console with no NNID (then I would guess the second one has the same info/status that the first one did) and you can transfer from a console with an NNID to a console with no NNID, and games on the target will become associated with the NNID of the source.

I will definitely do the experiment, and let you guys know the results (although will be a very long time away with all the seven-day waits!).

I wouldn't do that. The eShop account along with its purchases will be transferred to 3DS #2, and once the eShop is opened on 3DS #1, it will probably break stuff.

I think it would be good to know anyway. I'm sure some people never use(d) an NNID in the first place and that wou

He didn't use an eShop account though.....

Pretty sure you're using an eshop account by default unless you make an nnid which it then transfers to. Someone should confirm though,I'm no expert.
Also system transfer itself transferred all nnids on a device for me (both active and non currently linked) so I'd assume it would work the same even with ought an nnid active.

Eh, this system was only ever used to install a9lh. None of the system apps like eShop were ever opened. xD

Not yet, at least.
Then it might not matter, but if you are sending that system back to someone after using it to hack the other one, it would not be fun for either part if you sent it back and they complained that they can't purchase/download anything on eShop forcing them to send it in again so you can transfer back...

It doesn't break anything. When you open e-shop on #1, Fieldrunners will just get uninstalled. I've tried before.

Everything currently associated with the target machine will be wiped before it receives a transfer. There's a warning during the process. If you restore the NAND then yes, you can get back those games.
You can't transfer into a system with existing NNID. It will ask you to do a system format first.
The only way to take over games on a system is signing in with a new NNID, as transferring an existing NNID in will wipe as stated. Games that comes with limited edition console won't be taken over.

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though
