I bought a used Vita that was already on firmware 3.60. I need to understand my options in terms of activation. Can I never activate and thus never be able to use the psn store and just use homebrew? And If I want to activate.is the PS3 still the only option for 3.60? I did a websearch and there seems to be some software that claims to work for 3.60. Thanks.

I think what I ended up doing was system restoring it and signing in to PSN at the startup

Then I went to https://henkaku.xyz to install Henaku which if you don't know is basically like a Custom Firmware that lets you run homebrew and vita backups, it also spoofs the PSN store into thinking you're on the latest firmware (although I believe the spoof is getting/is already patched)

Thanks for the info! I haven't bought a memory card yet. Can I install henkaku on the internal one or is that I'll-advised?

If you're using a Slim Vita, yeah that's fine.

I installed henkaku. Where do I find info on how to use ftp to transfer that zombie wizard program to it? Where to put it, etc..

    1. Make sure wifi is turned on and connected, then open up Molecular shell and hit Select. It will then start up the FTP server.
    2. Install an FTP client (I use Filezilla myself, but you can use whatever) and connect to the Vita with the information shown (leave the login and password fields blank). Make sure you're using the correct port as well.
    3. Once connected, you'll give a list of folders. UX0: is where your memory card (and, in this case, internal storage) is kept. This is where you will transfer ALL homebrew and data files.
    4. Once you transfer the files (homebrew will always be .vpk, games can be a vpk and a folder installation with maidumptool), go to the .vpk using Molecular shell on your Vita and hit A to install it. After that, you can delete the .vpk as it's just an installer

And that's basically how you transfer and install homebrew and some games. Installing maidump games can be a bit more complicated, I believe we have some threads about it in the Vita tutorial section.

Okay everything works! Thanks! One question though, if you power off, do you need to reload henkaku again through the webpage? I powered off and had to do that or else the shell wouldn't load.

Correct, Henkaku needs to be reinstalled every time you turn the Vita completely off. This is a limitation of the hack, since (at this point in time) there aren't any public exploits that run on boot and the exploit gets cleared when the Vita resets.

You can use the Henkaku offline installer, which installs the exploit into the email app so you don't have to use wifi if you don't want to.

https://github.com/henkaku/offline-installer/releases < You just install this, open it and run the exploit installer, then after that any time you restart you just open the email app and open the email from "Henkaku" and the exploit will install.

I wanted to thank you for all your help. I ordered a 64gb memory card to put games on, now that I got everything set up. I also looked into the maidump games you mentioned and will set that up as well.

One question, when I get the new memory card tomorrow, do I copy henkaku to it or can it stay on the internal card while games go on the external one?

When you plug in the memory card, everything on the internal storage gets copied over including homebrew installed.

You might need to reinstall Henkaku after it transfers everything, but it's like a 30 second process so I don't think it'd really make a big difference if you had to.

Are you sure it gets copied over? I'm pretty sure it just tells you that with a memory card inserted you can't use internal storage and you'll have to install henkaku to the memory card too

For the Slim, if you have any games/saves on the internal storage, they get copied over to the memory card when it's first inserted. It basically copies everything on the internal storage used by games (so like the app folder, appmeta etc).

But you'd probably still have to install Henkaku, yeah.

Is that the same with the PSTV as that has 1GB built in like the Slim although I do remember seeing a popup along the lines of "Can't use internal storage with a memory card inserted" at some point.

Yep, the PSTV and the Slim work the same in this regards.

And yes, you can't use the internal storage once the memory card is inserted (legit, anyways) for whatever silly reason. This is why it copies everything over
