1. I've imported some Miis by scanning QR codes found on web. However, they are protected from being edited. Is there some way to unprotect a Mii ? I guess the QR code just just contains one bit indicating if editing is allowed or not, so it should be possible to unprotect it...

2. I've created first Mii based on myself, and then created some more. How do I select which Mii is the main, personal one, to be sent via StreetPass ? And what's the point of having more than one Mii (the rest is not used in StreetPass) ?

3. What are the conditions to make a successfull StreetPass exchange ? I understand it is done via WiFi so the range should be pretty big (at least 10 meters). But how long both parties have to stay in proximity ? E.g. if I'm driving a car and passing next to someone walking on the pavement in the opposite direction, would our 3DSs get chance to communicate ? Or maybe it works this way that 3DS just broadcasts the information every few minutes, so you might not fall into the window of opportunity ?

Thanks.

Read your manual babe.

1. Probably yeah if you know what you're doing in notepad.
2. Your personal mii can not be deleted or changed. You need to edit that Mii if you want to change it.
3. 30 meters and takes 1 second.

Just wondering...
I meet someone, I send my Mii, then I totally change it (add beard, moustache), and then we meet again. Will my Mii be updated on this other person's 3DS, or will it keep the look from the first encounter ?

It will update your Mii on their 3DS.

Your personal Mii can't be deleted but your StreetPass Mii can be changed (see StreetPass settings), if you do change your StreetPass Mii to another Mii, it will act like you've just met for the first time (Your old Mii still being on their 3DS as well as the changed one)

Edit: The point of having more than one Mii is nothing really. But upcoming games that use Miis (Mario Kart 3DS probably) will use Miis you've created in the game.
