A controller for your thoughts - win a free controller!

conbanner.jpg

It's around that time of the year I try to be a more productive person, and with that comes the question of where that productivity should be directed. Courtesy of @AKNES I have a controller to give away, with the winner being able to pick from 8BitDo's Ultimate 2C (Bluetooth or Wireless), GuliKit's ES Pro, Elves 2, or Elves 2 Pro, or EasySMX's D05. On top of this, the administration have also decided to give three lucky runner ups a year of GBAtemp patronage, complete with ad-free perks! So what am I asking of you for a chance to win any of these lovely things?

The criteria is simple. You'll need to have been a member before this thread went live. If you're reading this as a lurker, I encourage you to sign up and join in with the larger community. You might not be able to join this giveaway, but there'll be more down the line. For those already here though, you'll just need to reply to this thread, and your reply will need the following information:
  • An upcoming game you're looking forward to
  • Your favourite ROM hack
  • A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in
If you can manage that much, you'll have your shot at the prizes! It might all seem a bit random, but it's handy to check in every so often to see where interests currently lie. If we see there's big interest in a given game, we might go more out of our way to post smaller updates or trailers as they release. If a ROM hack has a bunch of recommendations, we might take a bit of time to feature or review it. It's all good to know.

You'll have a week to enter, with entries closing Friday the 27th of March at 8pm in the UK. I'll pop a threadmark down to make it clear where the cut-off is, and announce the winners on Sunday the 29th of March. All winners will be both tagged and DM'd, so feel free to turn off notifications for this post after putting your reply down.

A big thanks to @AKNES for supplying the choice of controller for giveaway. If you're interested in joining their Discord community where they run their own giveaways alongside providing customer support for the various things they sell, you can find a link below.

I'm so looking for Forza Horizon 6, the 5th was my favorite game ever so I have high expectations.

My favorite rom hack is Pokémon Heart and Gold, I think it captures the essence of the original games and just make them better.

I have the Asus Rog Ally X, it's just stellar on every front but I would like to get my hands on a Win GPD 5, all I care is about performance.

Upcoming game - I'm pretty excited to see how mouse pi for hire actually feels and plays. I don't often play new releases ( I have a bit of a cutoff around 360 / early PS4 era ) but I'll be checking it out for sure.

Romhack - i was debating mario eclipse or smash remix or project+ but I think the one I appreciated the most when I actually played it was the English translation of night of the sacrifice

(Ikenie no Yoru) Which had me standing on a Wii fit board for about 4 and a half hours to get through the whole game in one sitting ( standing? Lil stepping?)

Cool thing I own - the eyetoy for PS2 does not get enough love. I had some great memories with it and my daughter is at the perfect age to enjoy the eye toy games with me now

I'm really looking forward the next Tomodachi Life and Rhythm Heaven releases!

Well, Tomodachi Collection and Rhythm Tengoku's English translation are great ROM hacks. There's also the Wario Land 4 rumble one, Mario Kart R Advance, CTGP Nitro/7/8DX, and so many others.

I have a GBA that uses a DSi screen, if that isn't cool already 😎

I'm looking forward to Danganronpa 2x2
I'm fond of Pokemon Emerald Rogue
I own a Nintendo 64, that's pretty cool. I've been eyeing wireless mechanical keyboards, I feel as though it would give a living room setup that extra oomph. Latency has improved a lot over the years!

GTA6 but I have no machine to run it...
A translation hack to catalan language of Golden Sun.
I have two beautiful Tapwave Zodiac but in bad conditions. A great PALMOS device that was like a mix of a Nintendo DS and PSP before they existed.

Let me try:
Upcoming game: Rythm Paradise for the Switch.
Fav Rom hack: Pokémon Z was such a mindblowing thing back in the early 2000s
Cool bit of Gaming tech I own is a PS1 RC style controller with which I played Crash team Racing.

Well, why not-

-An upcoming game you're looking forward to
Probably the still-somewhat-hush-hush new Witcher 3 DLC. I'd be excited for new Forza Horizon had 5 not completely sucked, but alas. Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War looks interesting too, and isn't yet ANOTHER online-only bloody game. Invincible Vs looks interesting too and hopefully won't fall flat like Sparking Zero did thanks to marketing hype.

-Your favourite ROM hack
Haven't honestly tried any, but I did use Pokesav and AC:WW editors way back in the day to customize my town and basically import good textures and make rock mazes and other fun things for visitors to do on the island.

A cool bit of gaming tech you own or are interested in
Still have my green and blue-buttoned Steel Battalion controllers, 2x both games, but alas only 1 OG Ekxbaxx, but I do have the usb adapter to the still-rough fan-made PC driver and need to try to get all of that to work once again at some point. Past that, Megaman Battle Network chip gates and the actual chips are probably my 2nd fave peripheral since it served as cool merch as well as useful game feature for BN4.5 and 5. And naturally I have a "hack" chip with all of the pins disconnected from each other and the case cut open and taped on one side to allow to make it any chip by connecting the pins to each other via any graphite pencil. Also, my GBA Everdrive Mini since it doesn't used the cursed CR batteries that don't quite stand the test of time and my GB Micro because IMO it's the coolest official handheld that showcased big N being able to package all the latest featured of an era into a mad small system.
Wishlist for peripherals would probably be a proper DDR pad, and guitar hero guitar that can work with PC (as in I wish I had gotten 360 or later Rock Band stuff that's plug and play when everything was stupidly cheap when hype for the genre pretty much died down). I could add a sim rig, but a decent one would literally cost more than an actual old sports car that feels right to drive, and the fact that not all that many games today are both semi-casually fun AND deliver exact feel of a car (or that I've played, and via controller).
