how long do you guys think its gonna take? a year or two?
The vulnerability for 8.52 has already been found and enough time has elapsed where Sony might allow the exploit's release.

The person who found the exploit hasn't released it yet, we don't even know if he petitioned to. We don't yet know if he cares really. No info. (It's not the flow)

For 8.52 it could be a week, a year or never. For above 8.52 I'm quite sure there will be another exploit some day. No idea when.

Sorry to reopen the thread but what do you mean with sony might allow it?
What can he do to prevent it release?

Once Sony acknowledges the exploit and bounty is paid, sometimes they allow it to be disclosed.

It’s not about time, it’s about severity: if they patch it within days they could allow disclosure in next to no time.

I meant "It's about time" as in Sony does not let exploits go quickly and many exploits are allowed after about this length of time.

Sony pays for exploit information now. A kernel exploit is worth $10,000. They pay this so that people looking for these software bugs report to Sony to make money instead of reporting the bug to the modding scene. When collecting the $10,000 - the finder of the bug also signs a contract saying that they will not disclose the bug to anyone until Sony allows it them to disclose it.

Why would Sony allow the bug to be disclosed? The PS4 operating system is based on openBSD. Many businesses rely on this operating system and Sony needs to report the exploits to their community to help protect them as well.

Sony waits to disclose the bug until they have patched it and sent the patch to all their updating ps4s. Usually they allow it after a few firmware updates so that not many ps4s can be exploited (most PS4 owners like to update to current fw in order to play the most recent game or play online).

This method works really well for Sony and has stopped the PS4 from having many exploiters make it into online games and keeps the pirating scene small while the console is current - thus preserving the security for their ps4 gamers and developers.

From what I've noticed on twitter awhile back, Cturt doesn't seem like the forgiving type of person. So my guess is a no.
