This is for what setting I should go for on my Xbox 360. I'm using a Dell SX2210 which is a 21.5" 1080p monitor with HDMI so obviously, the 360 is connected via HDMI. Should I use 720p or 1080p? I heard that most 360 games are optimized in 720p resolution and that using 1080p just upscales the image, making it a tad bit worse in terms of graphics.

In case viewing distance is a factor...it is a monitor and I also use the monitor for my PC so when I play the 360, I sit directly in front of it.

Also, if anyone knows any source where I can see the native res of 360 games. Thanks!

if you can't tell the difference with the naked eye will it matter ?

But if you put clothes on it, well that's a different matter!

Sorry, but couldn't resist.

Well, let's put it this way...when you upscale a 720p video can you see the diff?

If not, then just leave it on 720p

Firstly, the default is 1080p. When I change it to 720p, I only see the obvious differences (more space with 1080p) but when it comes to picture, I can barely tell any difference. But I THINK there are slightly more jaggies on cars in Forza 3 in 1080p than in 720p.

BTW 1080p is the optimal res of my monitor...

are you sure that you see jaggles or do you just see jaggles because you are looking for them??

If the native resolution of your monitor is 1080p, use 1080p. Honestly your not going to see a huge difference unless your looking for it.

The native resolution for the games will differ from game to game. The Xbox will upscale the picture to the resolution you prefer if the game uses a resolution other than the one the console is set to output.

So basically if your monitor/HDTV has a better internal scaler than the 360 you might want to consider running in 720p and letting your monitor upscale. For most people this isn't the case though and as I said before most people can't tell the difference between 720p and 1080p anyway, though a lot of people claim they can (in blind tests they are usually proved wrong).

At any rate either way you go your going to get scaling on one end or the other. I'd personally let my 360 handle that.
