To be released on September 28th, the E-Shop version of 4 Swords will include a new single player mode as well as 'retro' levels from Link's past adventures- this trailer

...shows Link's Awakening, Link to the Past, and Legend Of Zelda.

Edit- ONM have confirmed that it is pan-system, so if you have a 3DS and all your friends have DSi's you can still play with them. I have no friends with either, so I'm glad to see single player!
From ONM, more on the retro levels
This fancy new Anniversary Edition contains two brand new exclusive areas, each containing three levels. First there's the Hero's Trial area, which contains elements from other areas and will teach Link the Hurricane Spin if you manage to get through.
The other new area is Realm Of Memories, which is said to feature famous locations from other Zelda games. Make it through this potentially awesome new area and you'll get the Master Sword.
