Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

Of course! Sorry, school has been absolutely destroying me and I kept forgetting to reply: I went with an iron that had a more precise tip and comes with solder. If you're willing to pay a little bit more money, you can purchase the one that comes with more solder, a spudger and a holder. I...

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

@Sushi4life I would recommend practicing using solder on some spare wire; draw with a sharpie or something on some tinfoil and just blip a little dot. Practice trying to get the wire to stick to the dot. If you get it, put the iron to the point, take the wire off, and do it again. Do this until...

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

You should add just a little bit of solder, yes, but be extra careful when you do.

Firmware Nintendo 3DS firmware update 11.13.0-45 released

@KlaxMaster I think the reason that isn't updated is because there really is no reason to use the hardmod when the softmod is so easy (not only that, but it seems to still work with the most recent update), so if you're still interested in hacking your 3DS, I would suggest just using Seedminer.

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

Oh no, I have much smaller wires now, I undid all that. I'm referring to the points on the motherboard. For example: If I were to solder to the top point, would I be required to solder to only the pin on the right? Or does it matter, can they be touching and it still works?

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

I have another question actually, one that I think might be the reason my rig doesn't work: In the left image, notice how the leads to the motherboard are drawn to the pin on the right. Does it matter if the lead touches both pins?

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

@Sushi4life aww, that's really sad. I'm not much better, I finished soldering everything and my Switch still doesn't read anything. I will try to get a tester and test all the points to see what isn't working.

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

Ah, I see. That makes much more sense. This is probably important to do particularly because two of the nine points I have done right now are a little unstable, so I'm going to have to try and make those a little more secure. Also, another note for any future readers: something I read...

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

I completely forgot that was a question I had: how exactly does one test each individual point? I've noticed that people like matty talk about "testing points," but how would you know if the connection worked without soldering everything and then testing?

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

Smaller is always better, but AWG24 should be fine since you only have one point to solder. Maybe they were touching, but that wasn't even the problem. The problem was that I couldn't get them to stay on the motherboard. That method in and of itself was a waste of time from the beginning.

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

@Sushi4life, sorry I didn't respond to you sooner. I know a lot of us have said it before, but if you're just soldering 1-2 points (preferably not next to each other) then thicker wire is probably fine (AWG40 is still absolutely 100% better), but if you're soldering everything like I tried to...

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

Quick word of advice to anyone who happens to come across this thread: don't just use wires that are lying around your house. You'll kill yourself. Especially if you're trying to solder everything, rather than just one or two wires. Go on Amazon, buy some AWG40, or else your soldering job will...

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

Great news! I'm now missing four pins. :wtf: This just goes to show: if any of you EVER buy a spare Switch SD card reader, it better be TOP QUALITY, otherwise every flippin' time you put it in your Switch, you'll lose another five pins. I am, however, willing to bet that this means...

Hacking Switch doesn't turn on after an unusual error

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

Well remember, the newer diagram says that the GND is connected to the top-left corner (for whatever reason). I'll try the green one again though, because I have almost no other options. If you're right and the green one is, in fact, involved in the GND situation, then at least I'll have a good...

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

Ah, I see. I shall take a look again and maybe lightly wiggle the pins around and give it another shot. I'll also try again with the spare sd reader I bought.

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

I am losing my mind. I have tested every point on the board (including GND) and nothing works. I don't know if this is an efficient way to test anything, but I just held the wire in place, touching both points that I was currently testing, and then pushed the power button to try and read the SD...

Hardware MicroSD card reader don’t read micro sd. (Error 2002-2001)

clianvXAi, if you managed to get into your Switch, it is possible to perform a soldering job yourself in order to get your microSD card reader to work again. If your Switch has a missing pin as you say, then simply buying a new reader will not work. In fact, the odds are against the reader being...

Hardware Problem With SD Card Reader Seat From Nintendo Switch Mother Board

@mitcha I'm actually about to give repairing my reader a try tomorrow, but there's one thing I still really don't understand. How on earth can you tell which points need to be soldered for corresponding missing pins?
