    Not necessarily. If you want to softmod and not deal with small, little RCM jigs/paperclips/wires/etc., lower is better. 5.0+ will not get a softmod(at least in the foreseeable future), where as all other firmwares will, some time, depending on the exact version.

    You might still be able to if you have another switch with 5.0 through the peer-sharing game update feature, but I haven't tested it or heard any success from it.
