Raikov - Metal Gear Solid's greatest mystery

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR METAL GEAR SOLID 3 FOLLOW. I first played Metal Gear Solid 3 when I was 13. The game was unlike anything else I’d played up to that point, and I loved it. Like everyone else, I was mesmerised by the jungle, the story and the music. And like everyone else, I found Raikov...

Translation Kurohyō: Ryū ga Gotoku Shinshō (Yakuza Black Panther) Translation Project

You guys mentioned a discord server a while back. Assuming this project isn't dead yet (and hopefully that's the case!) is there any chance we could join it? Or could you make a new one so that we can keep track of progress? It's killing us having no updates for such long stretches of time and...

    PS1/2 FreeDVDBoot - New PS2 exploit

It's really nice to see that the PS2 has been experiencing somewhat of a renaissance, with RetroArch, the new toolchain and now this. Fantastic work, and I'm glad to see a new exploit on a console that doesn't have enough of them :)

Comment by 'TheMrIron2' in 'So, I played Mario Kart Wii'

I've noticed a funny bit of perhaps unintentional hypocrisy whenever people begin discussing Mario Kart Wii in the context or skill or comparing it to Mario Kart 8. I don't think many people will disagree with me when I say that Mario Kart has always been a family friendly franchise. In...

Editorial GBAtemp Recommends: The Simpsons Hit & Run

I agree with the overall recommendation, but disagree that L4 onwards feels "tacked on". There are some brilliant new vehicles introduced later in the game, and in regards to the levels, L7 (while smaller than the original L1 it was based on) undergoes dramatic changes - the graveyard is now...

Hacking PSPHDC Announcement - The First PSP Homebrew Developer Conference!

I would agree if the PSP Go didn't exist! The extra convenience and portability means a lot to me for a portable device. But yes, I totally understand why many prefer the Vita, especially compared to the standard PSP models. Yes! I started the discord server in summer of 2018 and it now has...

Hacking PSPHDC Announcement - The First PSP Homebrew Developer Conference!

(original post written by Iridescent from reddit) The First PSP Homebrew Developer conference will be held on March 28th, at 4PM EST (8PM GMT)! This conference will feature over a dozen presentations from 8 PSP developers, and we are waiting on 3 more people to confirm presentations. The...

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition gets rated in South Korea, hinting at a release soon

I suspect you're trying to sidestep my actual point by saying "Wii U failed/N3DS bad". Doesn't dismiss the fact that XC got chances that TLS never got. Yes, of course there is. I believe it was someone else who said it was boring anyway. No ground will be made by arguing about whether or not a...

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition gets rated in South Korea, hinting at a release soon

The bottom line I'm trying to make is that Xenoblade has received a re-release on the Wii U eShop, the 3DS port and now a full Switch remaster all within 10 years of release, and Last Story didn't even get the Wii VC treatment. Also lol @ "Last Story is boring" as if Xenoblade's plot is...

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition gets rated in South Korea, hinting at a release soon

I've only seen one other person mention The Last Story. XC has been remastered not once but twice since its Wii release now and TLS can't get a port or even a Virtual Console release? (Even Pandora's Tower got one on Wii U) Really wanted to like Xenoblade but just couldn't. Combat felt like you...

Why is not there a Zeebo Emulator for PC?

Worth the bump. Zeebo is a fascinating little box, and last year me and a few others were actually very interested in doing something homebrew-related for it... before seeing the price. Nah, I'm alright.

Tutorial The Definitive Wii U Modding Guide

It's only a year older than the current gen consoles (PS4/XB1), lmao. 2012 is not very old at all. The Wii GPU is onboard the Wii U GPU, but the Wii CPU is not in the system - the Wii U under clocks itself to Wii speeds to run Wii software. But yeah other than the writing suggestion above (open...

Hacking GoldenEye PSP - Now playable!

A year ago, we threatened to remake GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. A year later, we have something very promising to show. Current issues include reload times, spawn locations and the reappearance of weapons, but otherwise this is very much nearly ready for a release. Stay tuned! Check out the...

Comment by 'TheMrIron2' in '[PSP] Dev Diary: A year of progress and bringing the PSP into the next decade!'

Most PSPs have huge battery mods very easily with standard batteries. It's not an uncommon mod to rip out the UMD drive altogether for a double-sized battery compartment that lasts well over 12 hours at full clock speed, brightness and volume! Hacking it is an absolute joke and it couldn't be...

Good to hear! It's a great time to get into the PSP.

Comment by 'TheMrIron2' in '[PSP] Dev Diary: A year of progress and bringing the PSP into the next decade!'

It's a huge convenience when dealing with over 1,000 people in one scene. Worth the questionable proprietary concerns - their data transparency is actually quite good since you can request your data at any time too.

Homebrew How to emulate DS and 3DS games on the Wii U?

Emulate half the Wii's games or DS's games? The Wii's DS emulator is roughly on par with the PSP's DS emulator. Probably says enough.

Comment by 'TheMrIron2' in '[PSP] Dev Diary: A year of progress and bringing the PSP into the next decade!'

What's wrong with Discord? It's the easiest way to communicate stuff to a large group of people from my experience. 1,300 people is a bit too big for a Skype group! But yeah, the scene is arguably even stronger than the Vita one right now. It's great.

[PSP] Dev Diary: A year of progress and bringing the PSP into the next decade!

This year, the PSP turns 16 years old. Indeed, the PSP was a landmark in handheld gaming; it was the first handheld console that was capable of a truly console-quality 3D experience, one which Nintendo couldn't match for years to come. The PSP wields a mighty 333MHz CPU with a 166MHz GPU and...

Comment by 'TheMrIron2' in 'What do you use your Wii console for?'

I think the motion controls have their purpose - lightgun games like House of the Dead feel better with pointer controls than an analog stick, for example - but sometimes their use is heavy-handed and in some games you'd wonder why they forced you to use it so much.
