Nintendo Switch firmware 18.0.0 has been released

help my switch updated my dog since I just use the homebrew for homebrew, I'm going to go ahead and update and then fix ams later when that's updated. worst case scenario I can live without homebrew for a couple weeks.

Dolphin Emulator team officially abandons planned Steam release

I'm actually kind of glad that this is how things ended up? Ninty didn't decide to go after Dolphin in total, but basically just told them "No, you can't be on Steam without our permission and we're not giving our permission." Which I have to echo the sentiment: why did we need Dolphin on Steam?

    Homebrew OPEN_AGB_FIRM discussion thread

in my experience OAF save data is compatible with retroarch without further adjustments to the save binary, it's just a matter of file location. It might depend on what core you're using for retroarch GBA though.

[UPDATE] Dolphin's release on Steam indefinitely delayed after Nintendo sends cease & desist order to Valve

sounds like we're going to have to learn to dump our own Gamecube and Wii firmwares like how we have to do for GBA/PSx

    blog post 2023-05-14

I went to make a "Group that's still using the default group banner" group but I don't want to make an actual group, you know? I just want a joke group entry in the listing.

3DS won’t turn on but is still on

I had this problem for a while. What wound up working for me was taking the battery out and letting it rest for a couple hours (which suggests that something's getting unseated as uptime increases). Are you still using the original battery?

Hacking SWITCH NOOB PARADISE - Ask questions here

Do I need to do a full power-off to update Hekate, or can it be updated "live"? Kinda don't want to dig out my jig at the moment.

    Homebrew OPEN_AGB_FIRM discussion thread

AGB_FIRM (and by extension, OAF) essentially is the bios, just configured for CTR hardware rather than a literal AGB system. Presumably the reason GBA Injects need a bios for each CIA is so that you don't have to do a cold boot of the device when you're done playing, like you have to do with...

Paper Mario decompilation project has reached 100% completion

Welp, guess it's time to make some tutorials on dumping game images from archived Wii VC or from NSO installations (I say as if I knew how to do either)

Pokemon Stadium arrives on Nintendo Switch Online next week

That would go a long way to explaining how an embedded GB emulator on N64 was able to do double and triple speed - severe game-specific hacks (now I'm curious to know how much overlap there is between "DMG instructions explicitly used in Gen 1 Pokemon Games" and "the rest of the DMG library" -...

Pokemon Stadium arrives on Nintendo Switch Online next week

Nah, it's more like playing Dark Souls but you're not allowed to wear half of the equipment. The rentals have poor move selections.

Pokemon Stadium arrives on Nintendo Switch Online next week

i wonder how hard it would be to inject your own r/b/y into the game...? (also i wonder if stadium would reject a romhack? kinda got too used to speedchoice red)

Steam dropping support for Windows 7 and 8 starting on 2024

There's still plenty of obstacles though. Steam uses Proton which is built on Wine, but Linux Steam ends up mandating multiarch which screws with unchrooted build environments and can cause incompatibilities with weird things (I use a custom build of Dosbox-X and every time Steam's prereqs...

Steam dropping support for Windows 7 and 8 starting on 2024

oh man is there going to be a storm when windows 10 gets EoL'd - the upgrade to windows 11+ requires hardware upgrades due to the TPM requirement

"Sonic Origins Plus" officially announced, features playable Amy

yet another Game Gear compilation package. Playable Knuckles in CD has potential (I was disappointed with playable Tails but that was because I had to learn how to route Quartz Quadrant legitimately due to the difference in movement rules). I'm not sure what "Classic Amy" actually means but if...

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that WarGroove is a spiritual successor to the Fire Emblem games?

Ah, I wasn't able to ping it while idle either. But turning Airplane mode on and off unwedged it long enough to start pinging it.
