    When you plug it in, can you access the ipod touch as if it's a usb drive? Can you copy any random file to the ipod touch when you plug it in? If you could do that, then it's the software or drivers that could have failed.

    It's probably spinning down, stopping the reading in the games at certain intervals. If this is the case, then you need to use some software to change the sleep time to never, so it won't interfere with your gameplay.
