GBAtemp Exclusive Nintendo's Paid Online: a yearly checkup/opinion piece

To be perfectly honest, now that they've added Super Metroid to the SNES emulator I'm quite content paying for Nintendo's online service for the medium-term.

Do you know more than ONE language?

I can understand English, Russian and Japanese. In school I studied French but didn't enjoy it and barely remember anything. I've always wanted to learn German and Korean: They're up next after I'm more comfortable with my level of Japanese. With every new language comes a new mental model in...

Epic Games says that it'll stop pursuing exclusive titles if Valve gives devs more of a cut

I thought that it was Sweeney Todd who blew off steam by giving people hair-cuts for a price, but turns out that it's Tim Sweeney who's blowing off Steam for giving people hair-cuts on price.

[UPDATE] Epic Games buys out Rocket League studio, retracts previous statement on Steam availability

It's fairly ironic that the same company who gave us Unreal Tournament 1999 are now trying to kill PC gaming.

Borderlands 3 launches this September, PC version to be exclusive to Epic for 6 months

It's only a matter of time until this kind of unnecessary exclusivity to build improve the """competition""" between rival gaming stores sparks an anti-trust. I hope that the few extra users this will bring to Epic's platform to them is worth the polarisation that this will cause.

Microsoft's new Wireless Display update allows game streaming from PC to the Xbox One

Very cool that Microsoft are trying to take wireless displays so far: There's a version of our future where the primary compute experience is headless and using your own device to access that ecosystem — whether that be a console, wristwatch or pacemaker — is the new normal. If this is a step...

Comment by 'Frederica Bernkastel' in 'Reflections'

Hm, I think the final portion of my reply captured my stance pretty well: This stuff is complicated and needs a healthy dose of nuance, so being reductive and absolutist seems pretty naive. Respectfully, let's not be reductivist and naive when that's part of the topic at hand. I'll try and work...

Comment by 'Frederica Bernkastel' in 'Reflections'

I didn't say anything about controversial opinions: Controversial opinions are entirely necessary to have the kind of hard discourse which sometimes drives progress. What I object to is the kind of polarisation that closed-mindedness—the condemnation and rejection which constitutes it—results...

Gaming Sims Urbz in the City missing reed?

The reeds are sold in the thrift store, and should appear after you receive the objective to buy him one. If you can't see one, it may be because you still have another objective active (such as the shrunken heads thing).

    Reflections

What were your teenage years like, reader? Did you make the most of them? Do you have regrets? Or, perhaps you are about to embark on your own journey? Recent literature suggests that we now remain in adolescence until our early-to-mid-twenties, and today I certainly fit that profile. For those...

Telltale Games, developer of the Walking Dead game, reportedly shutting down

What's saddest about this news is that with the recent bout of layoffs, some details have started emerging about how harsh Telltale have been to their staff over the years. With this quality of story-telling and game-making, one can only wonder how many bright sparks this company has...

48 minute gameplay demonstration of Cyberpunk 2077 released

This looks like the follow-up to Deus Ex we've all been waiting for, stunning graphics/universe and really fun looking gameplay. Sorry "Deus Ex Universe"! Also really enjoying that it has been built to be relatively gender-agnostic: Seems a bit silly to say in this day and age, but more games...

GBAtemp Exclusive Weekend Discussion: What "dream game" would you want to see get announced?

Yes yes yes yes yes yes! HL3 and P3 are probably the same thing at this point. Also that reminds me: Left4Dead 3 might be cool too. Probably it's sitting in the same bucket as P3/HL3/TF3 though.

This site has been getting you to pay for ROMs since 2001 and isn't afraid of Nintendo & co.

I suspect that everybody is afraid of taking this company to court, as it would set potentially dangerous precedent. If they win, emulation is legitimized and so companies like Nintendo won't have the option to argue about the ownership of their IP anymore. If they lose, emulation becomes...
