That's a good guess and you're probably right. I did some digging back when the Crown3DS was first announced and it seems to be the case that DigiWayz.com, a reseller listed on gateway-3ds.com, is actually operated by the same people who set up crown3ds.com. Here's a link to my post from Sep 17...
Tunneling raw 802.11 frames over the internet is very hard. The timing needs to be perfect and I think there's just too much latency over a typical internet connection to get the 3ds systems to communicate reliably. A 3ds simply won't accept packets that arrive too late. Streetpass might work...

Anyways... The european nintendo zone seems to be region locked. I tried routing the traffic through a US vpn and it still went to the "Coming soon" screen.
DNS spoofing might be worth a try, but I suspect the certificates are different for the US and EU...
Ok, looks like the crown3ds.com site is hacked. I hope this motivates the makers to release some new information.
EDIT: The site is down now, anyway the site said "hacked by the great team"
This "crown3ds" is probably real or at least IS possible. The only thing that bothers me in the video is the way he closes the 3ds before inserting the card.
@TheDreamLord: It proves a connection between several chinese reseller sites and "crown3ds.com"
It's interesting. Also, after some more tries another wierd thing:
Some of the files listed here
Can be downloaded from europe-wholesale.com/includes_Dwtechz.zip
and europe-wholesale.com/root_dwt.zip
They are incomplete zip files with a sitemap and a "database_tables.php" script.
Yesterday when i ran a whois query on "crown3ds.com" it returned some chinese address and:
depot4u.com
[email protected]
That appears to have changed sometime today. Then there's this: Google Cache for crown3ds.com
And "[email protected]" is connected to this: Registrant:

i used to go out to the recycling center every couple weeks and look at the crts and other electronics people would drop off. Usually screens were broken or severely scratched from being tossed around. Did find a good one here and there, but never anything like a 1080i widescreen crt.
I have a few of those boat anchors in my basement I tried giving away but no one wanted them, So anyone close to Columbus, Ohio area that wants them, (26", 2x 19") please come get, for free.
Is it piracy if it was released for free? Not in my opinion, but I also think it's not piracy if buying it isn't owning it, and it's not piracy if you can't buy it from the original creators anymore.
