WaterField Designs CitySlicker Case for Nintendo Switch 2 GBAtemp review
Want to carry your Nintendo Switch 2 in (premium) style? WaterField Designs has something for you!
Product Information:
WaterField Designs has made quite a few premium accessories for gaming devices over the years. The company is bringing its craftsmanship to the Nintendo Switch 2 ecosystem, and we’ll take a look at its CitySlicker Case for Nintendo Switch 2 in this review. It is a carrying case for Nintendo’s latest handheld and packs more than meets the eye.
The WaterField Designs CitySlicker Case for Nintendo Switch 2 is priced at $129 on the official website. There are optional add-ons such as a sling strap and game card holder that are also available to purchase with the item. You can choose between waxed canvas or ballistic nylon (both coupled with leather front flaps) for the body material. The unit under review is the waxed canvas with chocolate leather variant.

Premium case, premium looks
At $129, WaterField Designs’ CitySlicker Case for Nintendo Switch 2 isn’t the cheapest option out there. However, as with the company’s other products, the price is reflective of the quality of the product. I’m a fan of waxed canvas, so I was already sold on this material. But WaterField Designs really showcase their craftsmanship with their handling of the material. The CitySlicker is stitched throughout and features two layers of full-grain leather for the front flap.
It is designed with the Switch 2 in mind, with the device fitting perfectly in the case. The interior’s soft material not only provides cushioning but also allows the user to easily store/retrieve the console without having to struggle. It’s also relatively slim, allowing you to conserve the portability element of the Switch 2 with some protection, without looking like you’re lugging a bulletproof shield around.
The overall result of the case’s design is one that does not look like a gaming case at all. It’s almost like a sleek purse or small briefcase. The leather accents, waxed canvas finish and professional craftsmanship.
However, it should be noted that the CitySlicker Case for Nintendo Switch 2 is a soft case. It won’t provide the extra, sturdier protection that hard cases provide. If you are careful and don't intend to throw the case around, or if it is well packaged in a bag or backpack, it should be totally fine. I can attest to that, having done exactly this on recent trips. However, if you are more of an “adventurous” on-the-go gamer, you’d be better off with a hard case for some enhanced peace of mind.
CitySlicker Case for Nintendo Switch 2: a slick case with no functionality compromise
The CitySlicker is not only pretty-looking but also very functional. It fits the whole Switch 2, with Joy-Cons attached, and has space for accessories. Notably, there are leather slots that can store up to five game cards. These slots are accessible when lifting the leather flap, providing a layer of protection to the carts, while also making them easily accessible.
On the inside, you will find two smaller pockets in addition to the large, main compartment. These allow for additional accessories or cart storage. I use the front pocket to store a microfibre cleaning cloth (although the Ultrasuede interior panel cleans the screen every time the console slides in and out), and use the back pocket to store a Game Card Holder.
At the back of the CitySlicker Case, you will find a rear mesh pocket. This is suitable for USB-C cables, earbuds, thumbstick caps and similar small accessories.
The case thus allows you to bring in the basics in a slim package. There is no space for a charging brick or gamepads, but the slim profile of the CitySlicker already allows for quite a few items to be carried alongside the Switch 2. Waterfield Designs has other, larger options that can accommodate larger accessories, so you might want to look into those if you are looking for a more “all-in-one” case.
Overall, the CitySlicker Case for Nintendo Switch 2 showcases Waterfield Design’s years of crafting premium items that don't compromise on functionality. Being a soft case, it will protect your Switch 2 from bumps, but for more extreme accidents and falls, it might not provide full protection. If you are careful and not throwing your Switch 2 around, you will find in this case a very well-made travel companion for Nintendo’s latest handheld. The price might be on the higher end of the spectrum, but the craftsmanship, quality and look of the Switch 2’s CitySlicker are great selling points.
Verdict
What We Liked ...
- Premium quality
- Functional soft case design
- Sleek look
What We Didn't Like ...
- Limited protection due to it being a soft case
- Some included add-ons would have been welcome
