Sometimes, a one word reply is all you can think of. I've been in that situation myself. It's still important because it answers a question.
I'd like to add it depends on the situation. A "Yes" or "No" might suffice, but with posts such as "wow", "cool" or "nice", nothing is added to the conversation and the message will be deleted.
