What's this? For wireless controller support?
My Gamecube's clock battery has been dead for a while. I don't know how to fix it. It's so annoying, I wish the original front panel board had a socketed battery like this one...

Yep, mine is dead too. So the replaceable battery on this is a bonus. I did order CR2032 battery sockets that should fit, just didn't get around to replacing it yet. The GC is at my moms because we play Mario Party sometimes, so I would have to bring my soldering equipment there or bring the GC back home to solder in the battery socket. But the BlueRetro is a solderless upgrade, two birds with one stone.

These are a bit thin and cheap, but because of the tight space against the controller ports other ones aren't guaranteed to fit.
The original battery is soldered in, which is quite annoying.

Otherwise, the Blueretro is a nice upgrade, 8bitdo sells bluetooth mod kits for original GC controllers that also come with hall effect sticks that pair nicely with it. Bit pricy overall though, the kits are $25 which is fair but the Blueretro is $95 which is a bit pricy for a simple PCB with a ESP32 and a couple 3D printed parts, but I appreciate the work Laser Bear put into coming up with such an elegant solution.

So I don't really mind paying that price, since Laser Bear does a lot for the retro gaming community with all their various addons and mods. It's a lot more elegant than the DIY Blueretro adapters for various consoles which plug into the controller ports and often have an entire octopus' worth of tentacles in order to provide multi controller support.

That upgrade is way too expensive for me, I'd be worried about potential wireless latency in rhythm games too.
I will have to look into replacing the battery eventually. It's extremely annoying that I get forced to set up the settings every time.
At least with the Wii and Wii U Nintendo figured out making it very easy to replace.

You can still use wired controllers, so for stuff like Donkey Konga it wouldn't be a problem.
I do wish there was a DIY version of this internal mod since it wouldn't be a complicated PCB at all to solder and it would be way cheaper.

Late comment, but $95? o_o

Personally I kept things as vanilla as possible and got a dongle instead (I just use one controller), but this is a lot cleaner. I really feel like video upgrades (internal, or as dongle) deserve that budget, but if you play with friends a lot, I can definitely understand.

As for replacing clock battery, it really isn't that bad, and installing a battery holder is a one time operation.
