The two protagonists aren't very likable in my opinion. There is nothing (yet?) known about their motivation. The girl is too silent.
We have a proverb that probably makes no sense when translated. Means: You have to ask a 100 times, get answers in monosyllables, it is almost impossible to get coherent/complete information. Literal translation:
"You really have to pull the worms out of this girl's nose one by one!"

Simply an introverted, shy girl, defeated by the "beatings" that fate has dealt her. Have you never seen any? Me all the time, of all ages. She is a plausible character, perhaps a bit melodramatic, to elicit more pity, I surmise. 🤔

Puh… Normally I'm not a fan of going to the "meta-level". This time I couldn't resist and just threw Narcissu into TV Tropes to quickly skim over the categories assigned to it. Sometimes it is nice to get concise names for some narration figures/styles. Surprisingly I didn't find a category for "two terminally ill people go on last road trip" (and I wish to knew the concise name for this common construction).

Not surprisingly, “Emotionless Girl” is part of the categories. The first chapters are pretty featureless, repetitive and centered around emptiness, which quite successfully replicates the lack of emotions, the indifferent way of not reacting to external stimulus. Gee… I’m sounding like an airy-fairy literature critic. This has to stop now!

I want to repeat the quote from the nonsense movie Terminator 3. “Anger is more useful than despair.” While not targeted anger blasts certainly don’t accomplish anything of value, they might be liberating/emancipating in certain situations.

Bottling things up for years and becoming a passive (helpless?) object, rather than a self-determined individual, fuels depression (even if looking emotionless on the outside)

I really appreciate your recommendation and am enjoying the book so far! Looking at the tiny size of the text I refrained from reading a synopsis before (I don’t give anything on “spoilers” and want to know if a book/game/movie… is potentially worth my time before spending it). Not knowing the content yet, the following is guesswork:

Setsumi will gradually open, become self-determined and will commit suicide.

It is simply a visual novel with a fairly banal and predictable plot, nothing more: we are not talking about great literature like Hesse's Das Glasperlenspiel or Mann's Der Zauberberg.
Yet the way it is written with a delicate and soft touch, it finally left me with a hint of bitterness, melancholy, and a slight sense of loss... 😔

"Der Zauberberg"
Noooo! I was unable to finish it, because I felt the urge to beat the crap out of the fictional people. It is equally hard to create highly likable and highly detestable characters. So, yeah, good work – well written.
Taking temperature multiple times a day… the book is as painful as I imagine swallowing the mercury from multiple thermometers (and yes, poisoning with heavy metals is very painful)

They were simply two examples of what are considered masterpieces of german literature. As for me, Mann's cold, dry style doesn't appeal to me, whereas Hesse's sweet, deep and poetic style I love.
Changing the subject: wow, what a cute avatar you have here! Does it perhaps reflect your mood these days?

:creep: → She is from Rosenkreuzstilette. Freudia Neuwahl, the only video game protagonist I know of, who runs around nailing other girls with Freundenstacheln: literally "pleasure (or joy) spikes"

Two very well made Mega Man clone games with pretty hard difficulty. Before they came to :shit: Steam, they were available in Japanese only. But 100% DRM free running on Linux (via Wine), so a direct buy from me.

Hearing a Japanese girl shouting "Freudenstachel!!" with heavy accent is the cutest thing I can imagine. This increases the game difficultly for me as well: I start laughing whenever the RNG decides to send this to the loudspeakers.

The probably unintended, but undeniable sexual innuendo contained in the name of her primary weapon is just:
