I am not a Christian, but I do not think homosexuality is considered a sin by them (if anything, naively a mental illness to be treated): instead they consider sexual acts, related to it, sinful. As for hypocrisy, it is more about the Church than about true, intimate, lived Christianity.

To be clear I don't agree with the Christian world view there, but that doesn't mean it's logically inconsistent

No matter how nice a guy you are you will hurt people - many unavoidable things should still be avoided as much as possible if they are bad
