Clone Cherries are incredibly frustrating, since you have to do platforming with multiple characters at the exact same time - ugh. Worst "power-up" ever.
Having five characters, compared to 3D Land's two, is very unwieldy, especially since you have to...

...finish EVERY level with EVERY character to get all the Stamps. There was something similar in 3D Land, but two characters is more manageable than five.
And none of the Special Worlds in 3D Land were all that challenging, whereas World Star...

Plessie's got stiff controls, and there's no way to stop, just slow down. Ugh, I always dread seeing that nuisance. And Peach and Rosalina should simply not be playable, ever.

Mhmm. I always enjoyed 3D World (Wii U – don't have a Switch) more than 3D Land. It is larger and the difficulty level on the 3DS game is non-existent.
Playing NES games (yes, on NES, not emulator with savestates) can be frustrating so that words fail to express it. Finally memorizing and mastering a game feels incredible. The special stages of 3D World come near this.

Going through the levels five times is nonsense. Arbitrary requirement for 100% completion.
Why no girls as playable characters? Peach should do something every now and then instead of playing damsel in distress sitting in a castle surrounded by lava. Admittedly an easy life. She doesn't have a whole lot of work.

But getting to that point is an exercise of pure aggravation, that feels incredibly off-putting. No, thank you, I'd rather not go through that phase, even if it means never experiencing that "incredible feeling".

And as for Peach and Rosalina, the former's job is as Mario's (and Luigi's) goal and reason for defeating Bowser; it should never be any more than that, as it ruins her appeal. And Rosalina...what a waste of a character, doing absolutely nothing but stand in place in her debut game; why bring her back after that incredibly poor introduction? I felt only disappointment after Star-2.

I have to leave now and will answer later. Only this now:
Aggravating: Yes. I broke a Dual Shock 1 with my bare hands (Crash Bandicoot 1). Those controllers are tough (the shell cracked but it is still somewhat working today). I guess a Switch Joycon wouldn't take that abuse and become a veteran telling the story decades later.

I liked SM3DW more. Part of that is probably because of the multiplayer, part of it is just how much content there is, even past the "final boss". And the levels in general just seemed longer/more meaty than SM3DL levels. And they had a lot of variety to them, with the gamepad gimmicks thrown in. Not that I was a huge fan of the gamepad gimmicks, but at least it added some variety.

@KleinesSinchen Try the special worlds in SM3DL - there's a whole game's worth of content after the normal ending, with a much higher difficulty level that you might enjoy.

Didn't realize you had to do all that to get 100% completion in SM3DW. I'm not a completionist, unless if I really love a game and want more of it after beating it normally, SM3DW is definitely not one of those games though. But there aren't even any achievements, so there's less incentive to bother with 100% completion in Nintendo games.

Some levels were indeed very aggravating but it made finally beating them more rewarding. Personally I didn't mind Plessie at all and found the levels with it an enjoyable departure from the standard platforming formula. It's hard to control but not so hard that it feels unfair. You get enough time to react despite the sluggish controls

Nothing in SM3DW ever felt hard to the point of being unfair, when I died it was my own fault.
