"Opening up to the world"...about everything? Nah, some stuff's too private for that. Too private...and immoral.
In general, though, that is indeed good advice.

Of course, I meant as a character orientation, emotional aptitude; not for every single detail of private life!

"suffer in silence, or suffer in front of everyone else, and risk misunderstandings and getting hurt from the people you trusted opening up?"

Do not suffer in front of others, but confide in each other, share the suffering, and overcome it. We say "mal comune mezzo gaudio" ( shared pain is half a joy).
In the end, all suffering, especially mental, is an illusion, it is the EGO that suffers: helping others is the best medicine. Even in small things.

...I was only half serious but are you for real there?

VinsCool, What do you mean by "are you for real there"?
Is this perhaps a way of offending?
I hope I misunderstood, because I don't allow myself to offend anyone, and I demand the same from others!

Being told "suffering is an illusion" is a bit upsetting, honestly.

VinsCool, Suffering it is often unnecessary, it is self-induced. One has selfish attachment to things or people, and when loses these, the EGO loses a part of itself. If you are self-sufficient, without attachment and addiction, suffering does not happen, or is greatly reduced.

E.g. Often when a relative dies, one cries more for himself than for the dead person: because there is no more support, no more habit, no emotional attachment, and one has to change and to readjust his life.

VinsCool, I expected an apology, which did not come. Respect is the bottom line. If you still want to offend, directly or veiled, please don't write on my profile anymore!

...excuse me? I owe *you* an apology for being a little upset over something that, in *my* opinion, was inconsiderate, and the opposite of being compassionate?

In this case, I am sorry for getting angry and taking it personal, you are free to have your own way to view the world, and you are also free to be wrong, I can accept it.
