It'll happen when it happens, keep in mind projects like these are hobby things done on devs' free time for a niche audience. It might take a bit.
from what I see someone was working on it but never released anything other than videos. Makes me somewhat doubtful as to their authenticity.
I'm sure i read they were simply streaming the game to the gamepad from pc. Shame, good game could do with a port.

IIRC, if you wanna compile it, you need to use Xcode and then do a few bits to get it working. There is a readme file teaching you how to set it up.
For now, keep an eye on their GitHub repo for any new commits/releases of their port.

That branch is really incomplete and won't compile.
Someone mentioned on their discord server that they stopped working on a Wii U port.
Oh that's a shame and understandable since they wanted to stop doing these decompilations altogether according to their GitHub page.
On a positive note, a user from the Sonic community, Clownacy, told me he might pick up where Rubberduckycooly left off and finish off the Wii U port of Mania since they did decompilation ports in the past to that console, Sonic CD being one they've done.

It actually can, Sonic Mania was just finished being decomped a day or two ago, and already ported to the Vita. Wii U should be right around the corner, hell someone that knows what they're doing could probably get it done today.
Anyway that Cuphead thing you're talking about was just a fan remake for the Wii U that didn't get very far, Cuphead itself has not been decompiled (yet anyway).

plus why didnt we have sonic the hedfehog 4 - 1 episode and 4 - 2 for sonic mania or sonic origin hmm?

And again, that's not a port of Cuphead, it's just homebrew meant to replicate the game on the Wii U, which again didn't get very far.
good to see more stuff that are ported to Wii U. Im sure there is lot of hidden that we dont know what Wii U can do what Nintnedo is not showing us what Wii U can do else

Well... If someone already porting Sonic Mania and it seems to run fine for the most part, then it would definitely be possible to port SMBX to the Wii U using TheXTech code.

I wish @JustJay was still around and this thread here https://gbatemp.net/threads/sonic-mania-on-wii-u-and-genesis-vc-console-on-wii-u.583535/ were still open so I could shove this all in his dumb face. He was talking down to me when I objected to his claim that Sonic Mania could never come to the Wii U, when i said it feasibly could, if it were to ever be decompiled. I did say not to hold their breath to the OP on the prospect, but in that regard I appear to be wrong to have suggested that even.
