A custom CDN would be neat, but honestly it'd be miraculous if Ninty Ninjas didn't descend upon it in a heartbeat.

That and trusting your console cert to something like this is just asking for it (and many others) to be collected and posted as a public cert.
A custom CDN with legal custom nsps would be good, but as of now ALL OF THEM ARE MADE WITH ILLEGAL TOOLS, AND THEREFORE ALL OF THEM HAVE ILLEGAL CONTENT.
When some open source stuff comes out, a CDN would totally be possible!

I'd prefer using the existing homebrew appstore to get the nsp to SD card using simple http protocol and then using a homebrew installer tool, instead of using a recreated cdn server needing ssl and using eticket module to install directly to the console, providing your own cert info, etc.

nothing wrong hosting legal nsp. but I don't see the need of a cdn using certs, compared to a server to host files publicly for homebrew access.
Like I posted on previous page, there are legal nsp and nca builders available, but people still prefer using official SDK instead of helping building legal tools...

Without SSL, your Switch is basically in for some nice bricking.

to download file to SD, without ssl, it can brick the console ?
never heard of that on Wii homebrew browser or WiiU appstore. download to SD is just that ... to SD. not to the console.

you get more risk if you don't check nsp integrity first before installing. SSL doesn't prevent corrupted download.

Downloading to the SD without SSL will not brick you, it's the nsp that it installs that will. SSL prevents interception, is my point.

as much risk as all file you download all over internet, targeted to any device.
I wonder who can intercept my download and send me a different file... never seen that happening. my ISP maybe?

mitm to brick switch, it's really unfortunate.
if you have a hacker or pirate on your connection, they probably expect other thing than bricking your console. credit card and bank info?

local, yeah. because my neighborhood care to brick my console. if my brother want to brick me, he can just take it instead of pirating our network.
not saying it's impossible, just saying it's improbable. non ssl homebrew app store and homebrew auto updater functions exist in many consoles, they have never bricked anybody.

if someone want to brick your console, he better hack the server's host (or even better be the owner of that said secured cdn), replace the .dol, .cia, .elf, .nsp directly to the server with a bricker homebrew instead of managing to "be in the middle" (no idea how), this way even SSL will serves you brick code, without any interception.

If you were really paranoid, you'd prefer a "non direct installation" process. first, get to SD. then check the file expected checksum yourself before installing yourself !
don't trust automatic processes. Would you trust a random person providing his own server for console hacking reason, compared to a well known video game company hosting official releases?
