hi there! planning on buying a Nintendo 3DS XL soon. like many of you I'm interested in homebrew so I figured I'd join here to follow whatever development is going on. I'm studying japanese at the moment so I'd love to be able to buy some japanese games at some point. hope someone can figure out a way to remove the region lock while still satisfying the "no warez" qualification.

so... hi.

DS games have no region-lock in the first place. DSi and DSi-enhanced games do, but the region-lock is ignored in flash carts because flash carts run games in DS-mode (without the DSi features, like the region-lock).

There is no way to play 3DS ROMs or affect the way 3DS ROMs are played, including cross-region yet.

I did hear there was someone who found an elevated privilege exploit and was able to run ring0 code, but he hasn't shared his findings because it could be used to run pirated games.

What's the point of the poll?
Skulls.

Thanks for the welcome everybody.

Wasn't ring0, was kernel-mode in the OS. They've said multiple times over the past few months that they will not release it, so nobody here is seriously holding out for that one.

If you're new, then why does your member title say "VILLAIN"? Members can't change that until they have 500 posts, I thought.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
