The weekend is here, what are you playing?

portable.jpg

It's been something of a quiet week in the gaming space, with the deluge of big hitters trying to find their place before GTA 6 launches really kicking off next week. Even so we've had some good releases; Valheim got its 1.0 release, there's a new Legend of Heroes game, and Mewgenics found its way onto the Switch 2. Coming into the weekend now, what are you playing? Are you keeping yourself occupied with new games, or digging deep into the backlog?

On my side of the fence it's a heck of a lot of Monster Hunter, specifically the English translation of Portable 3rd on the PSP. It's something of a culture shock to go back to a game that doesn't have a target camera, but at the very least Portable 3rd has a lot of the modern-ish niceties that at least minimise the friction a touch. I just fought my first Qurupeco in maybe ten years though and can soundly say that deserved to be left behind in the third generation. It is abhorrent. Beyond that though, I'm also grabbing my partner where available to smash through Orbitals on the Switch 2. I'll keep my thoughts light here with me planning to put together a video and write up for it, but hey, it's pretty great.

Let us know how you're getting on this weekend.

How are you finding those? I remember when they came out they got a lot of flak for their linearity. Outside of that are they worth playing?
It never left me. I bought the PS3 super Slim ages ago (think around 2012), but I upgraded it with a 1TB HDD.
I have the EU versions of FFXIII, FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns on the original PS3 discs. It was in my "closet" for many, many years collecting dust. Somehow I had the urge to play it again since there are no remasters. Loving it ^^

ive been trying to push myself through the story of Crimson Desert. For all the chatter about Crimson Desert when it first came out I am not finding it to live up to the hype at all. When I get stuck in the middle of these type of games it often takes me longer to get to the next game because I can only stand to play the game for an hour or two at a time before I get super annoyed by the game and have to stop playing for the day.
just happened to me with pokemon. I managed to finish diamond but cant with heartgold, funny enough i beat yellow, crystal, sapphire, fire red and a japanese copy of emerald with no problems. Perhaps, im just burned out from playing to many pokemon games consecutively.

im playing docklight, im two worlds and one witch game and battle to finish it. planing to finish metroid saga next, i need to get ready for metroid ravenous.

Just more Overwatch. I finished ground zero recently , so now I'm just playing Overwatch while deciding what single player game to start up.

Finally been playing through my copy of Mario and Luigi Brothership that I picked up Japan. Definition of a 5/10 game. Perfectly average.

Getting my tires replaced right now and have been chipping away at the Mother 2 Deluxe Hack

Trying to finish Onimusha (last boss) and hopefully start The Blood of Dawnwalker. I am also playing Denshattack (game pass) on a daily basis (a couple of courses).

On one hand, marveling at how absolutely ass the physics feel overall even for a total arcade kinda game, and on the other cannot pull away from the lounge house OST and the fact that you can drive across the entire Murika unlike any other game. The Crew 2 Screenshot 2026.09.11 - 21.41.26.47.pngThe Crew 2 Screenshot 2026.09.11 - 21.30.54.46.pngThe Crew 2 Screenshot 2026.09.11 - 21.15.13.33.png

I've started Xenoblade X on Switch. I got the Switch 2 Edition cos I'm thinking to get a Switch 2 soon.

So far the gameplay is decent. I'm looking forward to getting a mech and I'm hoping for an adventure.

I'm working on finishing Super Mario 3D World with Rosalina as the last character I need to run through the game with.

I also just restarted Yu-Gi-Oh Forbidden Memories. I spent way too long last night resetting and trading starter deck cards between two save files to build an OP Twin Headed Thunder Dragon deck.

Finally beat that bastard Heishin during that first match where you're supposed to lose.

ooo a dual screen retro android device ? or modded 3ds ?
i'm interested in buying one

An old DS Dragon Ball game, I started playing it from the beginning the day before yesterday.
But its touchscreen controls are super annoying, I remember I stopped playing before because of this reason.
This time I'll try to finish this game.

You know.......I did snag the very original PS2 iso last week, and that would be an entertaining and a jarring little experience I might just dip a sword into as well.
At some point I want to give the PS2 games a go, if only to fight a few of the monsters that never made it to other games. I think most of the interesting ones are from Monster Hunter 2 though. I think the Yama Tsukami is also a bit more interesting in MH2 vs Freedom Unite.

I'll get to it eventually. The third generation was always my favourite, the older ones are a touch harder to get into.

I'm playing Mewgenics! I've also started a playthrough of Pokémon Soul Silver! It's my first time exploring the Johto region, it's actually the only region I've never played a game for. I got Platinum as a kid, then immediately went to Black, and somehow managed to skip Johto entirely. It's been so long since Gamefreak has touched Johto!!! I'm not complaining, though, I'm going back to the older games on purpose, because I honestly kinda prefer the looser exploration and less forgiving battles. I have been thinking about wanting to make a small indie Pokémon clone RPG that sorta harnesses that oldschool feeling of exploring and discovering for fun, not because the tutorial NPC is telling you where to go every step of the way... So! I'm researching what makes the older games fun, and what I miss about them. I'm lucky to have a whole region to explore completely blind!

Quite honestly though, I need to stop neglecting Sunbreak and finish up at least it's base set of missions even if playing it after Wilds just feels stiff.

Hot damn do I feel that. I really should've gone back to that instead of starting Portable 3rd. I just got excited for Outlanders and thought having an Android handheld setup for Monster Hunter would be fun lol
