Unreal Engine 5 fan remake Gamma Emerald gets its first early access release

After being announced last year, the fan-made remake Gamma Emerald has finally gotten its first early access release. A complete rebuild of fan-favourite Pokemon Emerald in Unreal Engine 5, the game has amassed a sizeable following keeping up with the small developments as they've been posted. On the creator's YouTube channel, we've seen teasers for the battles, area design, and various menus. Not to mention showing off the Game Corner in its full glory.

A lot of effort has gone into making this game feel like the originals, while introducing new graphics similar to Square Enix's HD-2D titles. You can find an overview of what to expect below, with this first release featuring content up to the region's third gym:

What to Expect said:
In the Overworld, there is
  • The entire path from Littleroot to Mauville (including every interior) built tile by tile.
  • Your LEAD/Ace Pokémon can follow you around outside its ball.
  • Day/Night system, encounters may adjust with the time.
  • Berry System/Planting works with the IRL clock. It takes IRL 8 hours to grow new berries.
  • HMs are now automatic, you no longer need to teach them to your Pokémon, once obtained, simply interact with a tree, rock, boulder, etc etc and your party will take care of the rest. Ignore the contradictions with that at the time.
  • Hidden Items around the map, Hand drawn town map
In the battles you can expect
  • Turn based system built from scratch accurately representing battle logic
  • Battles are influenced with Abilities, Held Items and weather, with status and more.
  • TMs are taught from the Change Move screen, not the bag.
  • Trainers can be rematched (after beating the early access)
  • ONLY single battles, in the early access, I did not have time to make double battles.
  • Physical/Special SPLIT in battles, gen 6 formula and rules
Systems in game
  • PC and Box storage are right on you at all times, for convenience
  • Daycare system has full implementation
  • The Game Corner has been added (some Pokémon listed are out of stock)
  • P2P trading
  • Controller support, it is highly recommended you commit to a single peripheral. Switching between controller, keyboard and mouse and clog the UI system and you may experience unexpected bugs.

We know you don't like women, but she's literally a playable character. The anime came after the game. May is just as much a canon protagonist as Brendan who is just as much Birch's child as May is.
Standard correction: I'm not comfortable playing as female characters as I find it harder to 'put myself in their shoes', as the saying goes; to immerse myself as that character, compared to male leads. I don't have any sisters nor close female cousins to have built that familiarity, which as I've gotten older and arguably more mature than I was just a few years ago, I can see as a major shame, something I honestly needed during my youth.
Portal is an exception because it's first-person and neither GLaDOS nor Wheatley ever really refer to Chell's gender; Ōkami is another exception because wolf, so it's abstracted.

So, not a fan of tomb raider?

We are remaking bootleg Pokémon games now ?

Gbatemp in a nutshell.

But imagine the opposite situation.

But still they tried to bully it with the legal system.
that's because both companies are in Japan, where Nintendo is regularly doing what we call "patent trolling" (while attempting -- I believe without avail -- the same in the US), so that other companies can't implement those patented features into their video games
this specific case is not about any similarities between creature designs of each game; that would be a copyright issue
this is why we need to ban software patents from ever happening in the first place
also note how Nintendo does this AFTER other works already included the patent they're trying to file -- meaning Nintendo sometimes didn't even originally create the concept they're claiming to own
other examples of software patent trolling include:
- minigames in loading screens (thanks Namco)
- simplex noise (thanks Ken Perlin)
- the "Nemesis System" (thanks Warner Bros)
Post automatically merged:

This one expired a long tamago
right, and the simplex noise patent expired as well, but my point is that even though these patents expired a long strawberry, I believe that the patents shouldn't have existed in the first place
