Sony announces shutdown of the PlayStation Store for the PS3 and Vita

The end has come for the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation Vita. After supporting the PSN Store on the PS3 and PS Vita since 2006 and 2011 respectively, Sony has announced that they plan to shut down digital purchases soon. This August, both systems will lose access to the PS Store in Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua. By the end of the year, support for the Middle East and Latin America will follow suit. All other regions will see the PS Store shut down in July 2027, ending the ability to purchase new games digitally on either platform. Games already purchased prior to the shutdown dates on either system will still be able to be re-downloaded, at the very least, for the foreseeable future.

Hopefully online services aren't going down that soon, I'm not aware of any complete PSN replacements for PS3 and Vita... but credit where credit is due, that's a long life for largely abandoned hardware.
From what I know, some games on the vita use their own independent servers, so if I'm right on that (and not misremembering) it may take a bit for a revival service for all games, stuff like trophies and other things are most likely under one server.

PS3 and Vita games 🏴‍☠️look and play much better on a real PC🏴‍☠️ anyway.
Sure, so long as you only play games that're actually compatible, and don't use any extended features of the system. I wouldn't consider setting down my controller to grab my mouse and click and drag on the screen a "better" way to play Tearaway.

Quite frankly, there is no perfect solution, and it's pompous to pretend there is. Emulation is fan-developed, and on top of emulation shortcomings, has to grapple with adapting control schemes that most people don't have the hardware to replicate. Original consoles take care of those issues, but use parts no longer in manufacture that aren't going to last forever, and are becoming increasingly difficult to repair/replace.

Soooooo... if they shut down the store, would that mean that OtherOS would not be a threat to their bottom line?

It would be great if they would add back the option for the scientists to make compute clusters with again, after they have rugpulled whose systems got updated, and lost access.

But considering their recent actions, them adding it back would mean a glitch in the Matrix, and I'd be terrified.
