Grand Theft Auto VI pre orders go live tomorrow, physical release limited to code in box

The delays may be behind us, but the news isn't all good for Grand Theft Auto VI. Rockstar have today announced that pre-orders for the game will go live tomorrow, on the 25th of June. Those who pre-order will get the Vintage Vice City Pack, a small throwback to one of their older titles. With the game launching on the 19th of November, fans will be able to start their pre-loads a full week early to ensure there's enough time to get things ready. So what's the bad news here? As you've probably seen from the title, there's no true physical release planned for the game. The retail version will instead feature a code in the box, being available to buy at the same time as pre-loads going live.

Rockstar also announced an Ultimate Edition for the game, throwing in an assortment of "vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action" for those willing to spend big. Barring further delays, the game will be available to play on the 19th of November.

So, apparently, preorders are limited to Playstation and Xbox? Did I get this right?
Amazon.com/.uk have it on their website, but if you really want to buy it... Go with the Ultimate Edition as you'll miss a lot of content if you go with the "Standard" edition.

Jeez, I'll just wait a couple of years until it's $10.

content? What do you mean? They are already selling DLCs?

I don't really about about GTA, I did think about buying GTA 5 once when I saw it for 10€ or so at a store but I changed my mind. I am just not that interested in GTA games (I did enjoy Saint's Row though, until they made that awful reboot).

I'm leaving this here... just in case people wonder if they will like GTA 6 like they liked previous GTA games
Leaving what here?

The top pic is the original GTA 3 dev team from a quarter of century ago. The bottom is in front of R's HQ in Edinburgh. Most of what you see are admins. GTA 6's dev team are 6,000+ spreading out all over the world. And guess what? The biggest team behind the game located in India. So what's your aim here?

Get the fuck outta here with this crap.

For full context, the second picture is a picture from a few years ago celebrating International Women's Day. God forbid a major company celebrates women working in the industry.

Even better 😹

Oh boi.... Soon companies will just put codes on a piece of toilet paper. Make sure to wipe ass "after" using the code.
Both can only be used once.
It will be a secret code, which you need a separate decoder. Then when you finally decode it, it reads....

"Be sure to drink your Ovaltine."

I mean, i get you all and i do not want to defend this shit, but what exactly would you have gained by getting a disc that cannot fit the whole game so you still have to download it from their servers? It would have been basically the same. When they decide that you cant play the game anymore and shut down the servers than you couldnt play it with a Physical CD any more then with the Key. The times where whole Games fit on one CD are mostly over. I mean yeah there are still many games that would fit, but that will be less and less the case in the future. The best you can do nowadays is make Backups with cracks for all your games so you can play them no matter what happens.
There is a big difference between a code-in-box, and having even a single disc acting as a key (like GKCs). The difference is that the Game Key Disc (GKD) can act like a physical copy, which can be traded, resold, or be lended out. You can't do that with a cib.

The fear of servers getting shut down is just that. A fear. But the only servers that have been getting shut down are the ones having to deal with payment processing, and those are mainly for security purposes. Not the download servers.

More than likely, the Digital Code crap, is probably due to the Complete Game being well over 100GB or 128GB (BDXL). Supposedly it could hold 1TB, but good luck. So the Game is probably going to be crazy in Size when completely downloaded. Plus, not that many Users would have the ability to Read a BDXL Disc, or the Developer feels it would Cost too much for Physical Releases.

Same with Nintendo with the Switch 2. If a Game is MUCH less-more than 64GB, they will feel Digital is the way to go. But you would think they would figure out different Sizes to be able to compensate.

It costs too much for them, but it's totally fine to charge $100 for a code in a box?? What the heck.

You do understand the point of GKCs right? It's a way to preserve the second hand market while giving publishers a cheaper alternative to cartridges. With the exception of Pokopia, no first party nintendo games use GKCs so it's just the devs with the low effort ports that were going to just put a code in the box or the lowest capacity cartridge possible. And Pokopia probably only used the GKC cause nintendo only has 2 capacity options for cartridges, 10gb and 64gb and Pokopia was 12gb.
It's e-waste plain and simple. Wasting resources to put a byte onto an entire cartridge. Just don't even bother releasing a GCK at that point. The point of owning physical games on switch 2 is that you can still pop it in the console and get right into playing it. Even if there's an update you can update the game later and hop right in without any waiting just like old days.

I'm holding out hope that the PS6 version is gonna come out on disc!
