Rockstar is helping in killing physical media... GTA 6 physical copies won't have a disc. Code in a Box.

Then just don't buy it. If they don't want to support consoles, then just buy it on a PC or don't buy it at all. There's no reason someone has to buy GTA6 unless they're so far up rockstars ass they're willing to take any level of abuse just to get the game at whatever cost.

I had no interest because their way about stuff has left such a bad taste in my mouth over sandbox gaming I don't even enjoy it anymore, but if I did, I'd just grab it on steam once a big fat holiday sale hit because no reason to give them full price encouragement either.
I decided i wait till i see gameplay and may get it on pc.

If you're replying to me, you're the one that clearly doesn't know what they're talking about. I'd love to hear how they would fit over 100GB of data on a 100GB PS5 disc or on a 50GB Xbox disc. If you're replying to the OP, I agree with you.
I was referring to the OP. I am frankly sick of seeing these posts. Its a massive game and it wont fit onto a disc so why they post this crap is beyond me

I bought GTA 5 a few years ago, it wasn't that great. So I gave it away. Sucks that the new one is even worse.
You have no way of knowing. Its not out yet

Thanks for the clarification. I wasn't sure as there was no one quoted in your comment. But yeah, if it shipped on say 3 discs for PS5 and 5 discs on Xbox the same entitled crybabies bitching and moaning about a digital code would then be bitching and moaning about having to get up and change the disc whenever they drive to a different section of the map.

It's stupid that weve come to an age of classism in video games. Where skin's and access to basic things are microtransactions. I would understand if it was DLC style content where they give you a special mission or something for extra but gatekeeping clothes and stuff behind money in a game like this is just stupid imo.
Agreed, I don't buy many new games these days, however I recently purchased 007 First Light and noticed the "Deluxe Edition" is a £20 upgrade and is essentially 4x outfits, 4x gadget skins, and 1x weapon skin...

I was wondering to myself who actually pays for stuff like that... I guess people do though! i'd be expecting a DLC with some extra missions for that kind of money.

Discs are cheap, it costs them nothing to put 2 discs in the box, or even 3. Games have done this, many times.
FF8 on PS1 had 4 discs. Baldur's Gate 2 on PC had 5 discs. And you could say, "well but that's CDs, they couldn't fit that much data so of course". That doesn't affect the cost of pressing a disc that much, and let me tell you, several gigabytes of data was a LOT for the time.
Blue Dragon on the Xbox 360 also came on 3 DVDs, Lost Odyssey on the same console came on 4.

Bluray games have largely come on a single disc, not because they are expensive to make, but because a single bluray used to be plenty of space.
That isn't the case anymore, so why should we not expect games to come on multiple blurays when they can't fit on a single one, as they have in the past with both DVD and CD based games?
The problem is not that the game won't fit. The problem is that the companies are too cheap to even press discs nowadays. Even if the game fit on a regular DVD, they would still just give you a code.

The install speed from bluray might be slower than the internet speed of many people, but that's besides the point. Online licenses can be revoked, and cannot be easily transferred (or often at all). Physical copies of games cannot, and you get to do as you like with them. I'm not surprised that companies prefer to give you license they control rather than pay to manufacture physical copies that they cannot. More just disappointed.

Effective Cost-Cutting basically. While the disc printing cost is not overly high, it's other things that add up. Printing, packaging etc. The biggest issues are logistic and distribution. With global disruption on the rise,...yada yada yada y'know all those fun business stuff that don't make sense to the consumer.

So here we are, what's the most cost effective and easiest way to put out the game? Digital only. Then, to maximize the profits, they introduced the Ultimate Edition. So now they can divert those funds toward the advertising campaign. Most people will buy the game anyway, so win win.
