i just think people have very different tastes and i think we're lucky that we have so many options to choose from!
im sure theres an option there for basically anyone... and most are superior to what Nintendo gave us imho
That's great and all but like, GPU scaling is blurry and the issue with the Nintendo scaling is exclusively that it's blurry. I'm being genuine when I say I don't get what you're talking about. What taste do you have that's satisfied by GPU scaling that was not satisfied by the default?

I'm literally asking because it confuses me what people are seeing and it's weirdly such a daily annoyance to me that DS games don't look right lol.

everyones different. from our basic genetic makeup to the quality of our eyes, how much we see, how fast we perceive it to the quality of our eyesight at different distances, to the effect it has on our mind, colored by previous experiences, likes and dislikes.
im being genuine when i say... why would you ever expect to understand what someone else is experiencing? or why?
Just accept it as a given that everyone wants different things and move on.

I'm very confused by the fact that you think that's a compelling point. I'm asking why the sky is blue and you're like, how do you expect to understand the complexities of subjective experience? Like, okay dude.

For the sake of everyone else in this thread, I'm going to cancel this double-IQ fight we're about to have and just ask someone else.

Is there a way to get a 1 to 1 comparison for each? I find the demo mario to be really difficult to compare.

Check first post, expand the spoiler, and open the big wide image on new tab. Almost all filters are in there.

One thing nobody seems to be mentioning is how much which games you play will change how you feel about a scaling option.

Anything from Square that has their single pixel wide font can look quite ugly with certain options (don’t remember which because it’s been a while) while mario kart looked best to me with I THINK cpu scaling (again, it’s been a while). This is why I created a Chrono Trigger mod that focused on making the font more readable because no scaling option made me happy with THAT game.

actually yeah
The whole problem is that 3DS is only like 25% larger res than the DS, so you have to distort pixels a lot to stretch it. I find that once you get over how bad it looks initially, the Double Pixel filter has a lot of appeal. I strangely enjoy playing games in 16:10 with that mode, because some of the text looks crisper. Some of the font becomes single-pixel lines, so there's no anti-aliasing at all.

But I prefer Sono's or Tweaked for 4:3. But most of the time, if I'm going 4:3 I just hold SELECT and play it in integer scale.
after a while now, i have used color correction and sonos crisp origanal. it looks pretty good! ish, but a lot better
