I noticed you submitted Xeno Crisis with my cobbled-together system. Thank you. I've incorporated it onto the site. I also took your data from here and incorporated Serious Sam as well. I removed Sickwater64's request for Next Encounter since it is now fulfilled!Followed @adam_odell template (even if I understood how to make my own directly). Here are two personal ones:
Serious Sam: The Next Encounter (PALG3BP9G)
Xeno Crisis (PAL ? GCRPBM. They have an NTSCGCREBM over on GameTDB)
Download the appropriate .bnr file in each folder.
I've also included all the assets used in it, even if you could extract them from the provided WAD and project files.
I hope I don't sound too nagging below:
About the site submission- you don't need to put the files in a folder in the archive, they can be at the root, they are auto-foldered based on upload data. One last detail, the WAV you sent me wasn't 16-bit and Sharpii wasn't having that for BNS conversion, so I had to make it 16-bit first.
A less important thing- I'd prefer submissions normalized to NTSC-U IDs (E) if 1) the game exists in that region, 2) what you're submitting isn't a region-specific variation (different title, or art style for the logo, language, etc.). I am for hosting other region variants if they're different. I'm just treating the (E) variant as the "default". The way USBLoaderGX works, I can make the "default" a three-letter code, which means it will cover all regions (USBLoaderGX will auto rename it to what the game needs). I can of course supply explicit PAL/NTSC-J/French/etc. banners when they have unique region codes, and USBLoaderGX will prioritize those first before trying the three-char-code (in your case, GCR, G3B). The only change you need to make is upon submission, submit it with the (E) region code unless it's explicitly specific to another region in some way. Xeno Crisis and Serious Sam seem to be identical enough in NTSC-U and PAL (English) regions, so I normalized them to the NTSC-U codes.
There is one point of contention all this made me think of- I use three-character names on the filesystem for USBLoaderGX, as stated, when it's not a specific version in particular, and this does make it effectively "regionless" in its usage. My direct download (click a banner) is relying on a "fullid" value (which is what you put in via the submission form), which always downloads it with the full, explicit banner name. This is never regionless and due to my NTSC-U bias, it will always have an (E) code. You will have to manually rename it to (P) or whatever in these situations. I might figure out a way to set the output region for manual download, but manual download wasn't the main intent of the site.
Since you didn't submit me Serious Sam directly, this isn't as important- but your asset for I assume the IconBack wasn't called that and wasn't 170x96. It was like 128x96 or something? Unless I misunderstood what the asset was. I fixed it for my build script, at the least. Just padded the width out and renamed it. I then took your WAV and resampled it to 32kHz to make the jingle.wav, then I finally built it.
Thank you for your submissions!
I mean, I'm not sure if everything I did was a pure improvement, some of it was just for my convenience, haha. I'm grateful that you appreciate it, though.@adam_odell I have been away from this for over a year as my life got crazy busy for a while!
To say you and others in this thread have been carying the torch is an understatement, seeing that site you put together along with the improvements to the actual process legit brought a tear to my eye. <3
Been playing with console modding for nearly 15 years and this was my first contribution to the modding world. To see it take off like this, even for a short while has been amazing.
Now, lets get these to be the default USBLoaderGX pulls from and I'll be happy![]()
Still, I wouldn't have done this without yours and others' work- I probably wouldn't have been curious of the inner workings at all if your template didn't exist. There was already a good foundation, and people had submitted a lot of games. The lack of consistent download methods, as well as it not being easily hooked up to USBLoaderGX is what motivated me. I decided to take it further and homogenize the banners a bit with some scripting, and here we are now.
I've fooled around with various mods, but this is probably the biggest thing I've done in this way, if not the first.
I'm not against it being the default, but I'm not sure the community should be jumping on some stranger who's got the keys to the house and it's a subpage of a page on a freely-hosted server. I'm not going to flake out, but something could still go wrong.
I'm also not against people keeping backups or mirrors of this page. My server might be, lol. Just keep it up to date. If someone wants to be "the" host for it and we can make it more official- give it a better URL, that's cool too.
EDIT: I went ahead and made some modifications to the banner and request forms:
- I made the styling a little more consistent between them
- Added a detail to banner submission describing NTSC-U ID preference
- Added a basic captcha with a "secret" multiplier (very obvious, I'm just hoping if any dumb bots ever hit my forms, it won't understand the context)
