I have an old OG Xbox 1.6 which doesn't produce any video output.

I'm hoping it can be fixed by a simple resolder of the video socket, but I'm wondering whether to use this as a soldering project and maybe internally HDMI mod it.

I've seen on AliExpress the XboxHD+ but that's £60+ for something I'm not even sure will work, so I'm curious, is there anything cheaper I may have missed?

The console itself is soft modded and last I tried it did actually boot fine as I was able to FTP into it.

Since I'll be at it, I'm also curious if there are any other 'cheap but fun' mods to try. I know about modchips obviously, but I question their value unless they can do other things besides not needing to lock the HDD.

This isn't my main console and is already broken, so I'm not too concerned if it breaks, but I don't really want to put too much money into it for the same reason as weird/cheap as that may sound.

Well I'm slightly lying, the PSU is also faulty, but only because I did a gut swap to fix my other Xbox, but I suspect it just needs a recap to fix.

Thanks.

Another fun mod is adding more ram. I believe you can now have up to 256MB. And there's even a Pentium III 1GHz chip that can be CPU swapped, if you're feeling ballsy.
It's not worth doing though, it makes no difference to playing any games and for watching movies and things like that you need modern hardware with the correct codecs. It's a risky mod with not much payback. Best thing to do is to add if you're not hard modded is a rapberry pi pico modchip:
