Sony announces PlayStation Plus price increase for new customers starting May 20

Earlier this year, Sony announced major price increases for the PS5, PS5 Pro, and PlayStation Portal. Now the company is raising prices again, this time for PlayStation Plus.

Sony says that starting May 20, 2026, PlayStation Plus prices for new customers in select regions will increase due to “ongoing market conditions.” According to the official announcement, prices will now start at $10.99 / €9.99 / £7.99 for a 1-month subscription and $27.99 / €27.99 / £21.99 for a 3-month subscription.

In the United States, that means the current PlayStation Plus Essential pricing of $9.99 for 1 month and $24.99 for 3 months is set to increase to $10.99 and $27.99 respectively.

It also appears for now that 12-month memberships are not being affected by this particular increase. And current subscribers will be able to keep their current pricing unless they let their subscription lapse or change tiers (except in Turkey and India).

That's stupid for Sony to increase prices will face very poor sales.

Smash PlayStation Plus out! Xbox store and Nintendo eshop are bad too! Also Steam is bad due to DRM should take down!

Or want to destroy power grid energy building to knock power off to millions of people, businesses, schools, colleges, shopping, etc?

No servers runnings and no internet after power grid energy buildings are destroyed. This will blow all companies like Microsoft, Steam, Nintendo, Sony PlayStation, social websites, bank online, shopping, AI companies, etc to crash like blackout!

In all honesty 1$/month increase is not that bad compared to 50% increases in rent, energy and transportation in just a few years.

Still I won't resubscribe. Was day-1 subscriber until 2021. The low fps targets and fixed resolutions are a dealbreaker.

All I wanted was Astrobot on my Steam Deck. Looks like that wont happen, unless someone releases a PS5 emulator soon. Seriously, fuck Sony! Thank goodness, Stellar Blade 2 will NOT be published by those fools!

Sucks, but it's a good thing I spend $0 for subscriptions / services like these. I'm living the subscription free life, no regrets, and I am missing NOTHING.

So, anyone want to tell me why physical media is bad again? Affordability doesn't count, because you dump so much collectively into subscriptions as it is, you could have just saved that amount to buy the things and own them. Saving money doesn't require a P.h.D.. Maybe I'm wrong though, and I just happened to skip needing a degree to understand how saving money works.

I will never understand the appeal for these cancerous systems. It's all a freaking trap, you own nothing, you pay continuously until you can't anymore. It's a literal money hole, nothing comes back out. How does one enjoy getting the short end of the stick? I feel like I'm the only one that sees the writing on the wall.

Increasing price of subscriptions sounds like extreme desperation. Clearly they aren't making enough from selling consoles and games. Also, specifically excluding Turkey and India for keeping the same prices for existing subscribers is like a death sentence for those regions.

RIP and fuck subscriptions

Once again, pay online should have never been a thing.

Anyway, Nintendo is already upping the prices of their consoles, so don't be surprised if they do the same for their Subs.

All this before the PS6 comes out. Good luck convincing people to not just go PC.

companies really are the scum of the earth
you'd think 'market conditions' would have them trying to be babyfaces and cutting prices to look friendly to the consumers
nah, blood out of a stone it is
Also, what market conditions require them to raise the price for the subscription that essentially just let's you use your own internet connection? These online subs have always essentially been a free money hack. Reminder, using your own internet connection is free on PC. This is just to increase revenue to make their GaaS bombs look slightly less bad.

Happy to see all the backlash. I kinda want a series X or a ps5, but they both keep skyrocketing with their prices... atleast my switch online still costs the same 80 dollars... for EIGHT people and not one :rofl2: oh how I wish gamepass, PS plus, and their hardware were more affordable!

And add one for the Sony price hike counter before second switch 2 price hike, ya'll

Also. unrelated because it's just too funny, they also just confirmed that they straight up gave up on porting thier single player offerings to PC, I wonder what device released by one of the other big three that made them do this.
Xbox and Nintendo

They saw how Xbox completely killed its identity and decided they need to make sure people have something to associate with Playstation like Nintendo has been successful at.

Lucky for the people that got subscription locked in. I was getting the premium package for the essential one until I messed up.

Well this is what you get when the competition (aka Xbox Live) is no longer a threat . Lets be realistic, Xbox is no longer in a position to call themselves competition, all thanks to the stupid decisions in the last couple of years.

And to make matters worse, Xbox increased their subscription prices several times in the last 4 or 5 years, so is anyone admired by this move from $ony?

Sony management right now is: "
" Oh so sorry, you don't like it? Well f*ck you then, go to the competition! Whats that? All of your friend are on PSN and Xbox has only a fraction of the console player base, a NSO is basically crap? Then pay up pretty boy ! You will pay it and you will like it! ""

Welcome to the absolute greed era my fellow console players.

Edit: typos.
