I actually managed to get the Mame2010 Core to compile :)
It's probably abit buggy so expect issues, but at least we get a new munch of roms to play with ;)

MAME2010 Core Have fun!
Hello ^^,

Thank you Ploggy, but unfortunately, this core doesn't work on my Wii U, I've waited until 5 minutes after loaded this core but the screen stayed black...
(I didn't touch the config file, should I?).

Have a good day ^^,

Try deleting your salamander config (and probably your retroarch config too) then try it again.

It works ^^, thank you very much! ^^.
(With Aroma it's like Legacy environment : I tried Mame 2010 with Golden Axe the duel, it's very slow but it works. I also tried Baku Baku Animal, it works with the sound but it is slow too, Mame 2003-plus has no sound for this game but plays it with normal speed. Is there an option to accelerate these games with this Mame 2010 core with Aroma?).

Have a good day ^^,

Umm, not sure, I havent actually tested this Core, you can try turning off video/aydio sync in the RA settings? that can sometimes make games perform better, RT button should bring up the mame menu, is there any frame skip options there or in the core options?

A more upto date and hopefully more stable version of the mame2010 Core..

Hi, can I confirm where samples need to go, Mame2003Plus reports samples can't be found. I've tried:

sd:\retroarch\samples
sd:\retroarch\roms\mame\samples
sd:\retroarch\ssystem\mame2003-plus\samples

Thanks.

@ploggy
a doubt came up regarding the snes9x and pcsxrearmed cores. As you know in the current build it is necessary to have overrides for these two for setting the AX pro audio output and the sample rate, otherwise the games would stutter. I've noticed that in this test build the games seem to run fine without needing to change that configuration (although I only tested for a few minutes), they appear not to need it [?]. What do you think, would it still be beneficial to change the audio plugin, or is it better to leave it as is?

I think is it's due to me not compiling them with the AXpro optimization level, I compiled all the Core's is one big batch so forgot to add it to the make command. if it works for you cool, just stick with AX for now.

Hey there.. I've been using the latest RA build for Aroma, and testing the newest MAME 2010 core linked here. I'm experiencing some stuttering (example: Namco Classic Collection Vol. 1 & 2, from the mid-90s on MAME 2010) or severe framerate slowdown in some 2D games from the 80s and 90s, where I would assume performance wouldn't be a problem.. it's very unfortunate.

Are there any settings that users should know about so we could tweak it to potentially run optimally? There's some games that will only run on this newly available core for Wii U RA.. but I know it was JUST compiled and coincidentally I happened to return to RA experiments around this time.

I'll be lurking and trying to keep myself updated on any significant bug fixes! I experienced a crash already but it was one Ploggy mentioned recently with the Threaded Video toggle (also, speaking of which, nice PFP 😉). I guess when we get updates we just drag-and-drop the new files into the same folder (but here's a question -- would we additionally have to delete any of our config files or anything? I know sometimes you must have to delete them due to bugs. I have a lot of questions TBH because I'm not a regular user of RA).

Hey all, I have Aroma on my Wii U.

I downloaded what I think is the latest version for Aroma and copied:
“retroarch” folder -> sd/
“retroarch.wuhb” -> sd/wiiu/apps

But I still don’t see RetroArch Launcher on my Wii U menu.

Anyone know why it might not be there? Anything helps, thanks!

Dont make a folder called "sd" just transfer the 2 folders that are in the zip to the card :)

Also to all, added the new (current) build + Mame2010 to my sig ;)

Thanks Ploggy! Are there any settings we can tweak to make Mame2010 run some games better? I found some games that SHOULD run better due to the Wii U hardware or are almost at the proper framerate but are stuttering. It's probably still much better than it was a few weeks ago, and I'm guessing from what I read earlier in this thread, there's been new games that have been previously inaccessible running now. Would really appreciate any help + I think this issue will affect numerous users. I'm very much not too familiar with Retroarch as a whole -- and when you add learning about MAME on top of things, it can be a headache sometimes -- and only have occasionally used it. Thanks so much for the contributions!

Edit: I'll update the build too before I think about saying anything else, because you updated the download since my last post.. although without a changelog, it's a bit hard to tell what's been tweaked sometimes.

I can only compile what's available I cant optimise anything, I'm not a Emu dev. What games are you having perfomance issues with though? I can check to see if theres any setting that can help with perf.

Oh yeah I gotcha, I really just meant if there's anything that can be adjusted in the menu. I saw your previous posts about needing to compile cores to work with the Wii U specifically. Although, if there are any devs that see this thread later, definitely feel free to jump in here if you have any good advice!

There's some games which I don't think could run on the Wii U until recently, when you compiled that newer MAME core... so I guess we're still really early on in figuring out WHAT can actually function (I don't know what year compatibility cuts off at or the true complexity limit of the Wii U's hardware). Here's the excellent 2D '90s games I'm trying to get running nicely first (I think it mostly has slowdown issues in the menus, but during gameplay it might be okay.. not sure if sound and graphics and everything are 100% good yet):

https://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=ncv1

https://adb.arcadeitalia.net/dettaglio_mame.php?game_name=ncv2

(*edit: it's worth noting the games in Vol. 2 were ported to the version of Namco Museum that's on the GameCube, so that could be run via Nintendont.. but I wanted to see how it would look at its best resolution)

There's also some games that released on even older arcade hardware than the titles I mentioned above that have severe slowdown on MAME2010 for an unexplainable reason. I'm not sure about the specifics. If I have more to report (if it's helpful at all), I'll try to add more info to this thread.

I just tried Ncv1 and Ncv2 and both those games ran fine for me? I did notice when those games are loaded the Retroarch UI selection box (if that's what it's called) is rotated which makes navigating the UI a pain, but if you set "Allow Rotation" to "OFF" in Settings>Core before loading the game it'll be fine.

Yeah, certain parts had slowdown. I'll check again with the new ZIP upload you shared.

Edit: Great, now I'm stuck in an eternal "white Wii U logo" loading sequence when I overwrote the RetroArch files from the new ZIP. Now I have to put EVERYTHING on my SD card again? That sounds tedious to update this way. Is something unstable here? (I had to delete everything just to get it to work. I wonder if this is affecting anyone else here.)
