First post, and Hi from Norway!
My knowledge about Wii modding options and safety is intermediate at best, but low level computer knowledge is above average.

Just did a full teardown and cleaning of my second untested Wii after my first one suffered GPU death (artefacts and crashing).
Both are 1st gen GC back comp white versions (CPU-01)
The second is the one in question. It was bought used last year.
It has already been previously modded, so I don't have a clean NAND backup.
It runs fw4.2E.

My goal: Take the machine as far back as possible to factory fresh without re-modding it as it will run HBC anyways, unless it is not up to 2026 standards.
Do a full update to 4.3E, bring IOS, mods and such up to date.
It is now full of apps and saves from the previous owner that I want to remove.

Has it been safely modded?
How should I proceed with "refreshing" it?

SysCheck log included.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Normally to update softmods I'd suggest using modmii's syscheck updater wizard. However, because you want to clear previous saved data and mii's I suggest doing a factory reset via the wii options menu. This will remove your hbc though and you'd have to reinstall it as per the below.

Then you can softmod it as if it were never touched before, using ModMii or wii.hacks.guide

As a rule of thumb, don't try to return to stock unless it's a special circumstance or you really know what you're doing. Also, no need to do an official update if using ModMii, as it can help you safely do an offline update as part of its guide while simultaneously softmodding it. Official updates carry risk of 003 bricks if the console were originally Korean and poorly softmodded (unlikely for most ppl but especially when the console was used you never know, checking the physical serial # might give u an indication though)

So what I can safely do is:
1. Backup NAND
2. format via settings
3. update to 4.3E via settings (99% sure my unit has lived its life in Norway / Europe only)
4. re-mod via ModMii

Sounds reasonable, or risky?
How to verify a 003 brick is unlikely?
Does SysCheck detect how it was modded?
Heard there are boot2 and ??? mod which is less safe.

Final question: will ModMii verify that all IOS’ are correct version and right place, or is there no such standard?

Yes it will. At any point u can take any wii and generate a syscheck log and feed it to modmii and it can analyze it and tell you if there are any updates. So right now the latest cios is d2x v11 beta 3, if in 2 years you feed it to modmii and there's been improvements since now it will tell u what's out of date. You can also scan your sd or usb in Modmii's file checkup feature to have it check if there are any updates to any of your apps

Just chiming in to say that the format, upgrade, and in general, everything went smooth!
Now have a "fresh" 4.3E install with all I need, including emunand and such for the first time.
ModMii is truly a powerful tool in the right hands.
Thanks for building it!
