Hardware The SUPER5 OLED screen mod for the Switch Lite uses a 1080p screen and stretches the Switch Lite's 720p signal to fit.

how are we feeling about the super5 HDMI solution, that one has to opt for bluetooth or can use lower quality aux out audio and has to be decided when you've opened up the device?

And if you want the higher quality audio, I think has to be done with a conversion box on top of it.

Wish Taki just was honest about the project from the get go, when he unveiled I over 1+ year ago he was not that forthcoming that it was not complete a total WIP.
The current solution is kind of a mess.

Like it works but the audio is degraded. That the workaround is to have a dock that can be used to combine USB-audio out and the HDMI video to get best sound. It doesn't help that the OLED will cause battery desync as it bypasses the power measurement. Like what others did was to rewire the power of the OLED to use the correct source.

Will be waiting for the dock only without the oled as in theory it should not need additional power and desync.

Mine looks great.

I use Reverse-NX to output docked image (720p - 1080p) on the 6" OLED and it appears sharp to me. Nice and crisp. But I'm just a regular Joe not looking for minute issues, so there's that. But ya, Reverse-NX with overclocking on the Switch Lite OLED is chef's kiss, imo.

Receive it a few days ago (Mega Kit) and played with it for a day or two. Here are my thoughts in a "non-modded" standpoint.

1. The screen looks great, the 1080p mismatch is unnoticeable in my eye (I'm not Digital Foundry). Playing New Super Mario Deluxe, the game looks sharp, the color pops, and there's no noticeable lag.
2. Currently using the stock battery (still waiting for the upgrade since they shipped it separately). From what I can tell, there's some sort of drain going on. Left my Lite at 50% battery and went to sleep for the night. In the morning, it's now at 35% battery. I'm not sure if there's a battery desync or is the mod eating the battery since it directly taps into it. I might do the soldering route to fix the battery in the future but for now, I'm still likely to tinker the thing from time to time.
3. The HDMI feature is OK but for a stock user like me, the game will run in handheld profile on your monitor so expect low resolution, jagged edges, and blur (Octopath Traveler is exceptionally blurry on my monitor). The HDMI function has two configuration that can be done during install.
  • One is when you attached the ribbon cable that handles the audio into the HDMI connector (this is during assembly). If you did that, you'll have HDMI audio on your HDMI cable. The trade-off is that your Switch will always be in headphone mode so your internal speaker will likely become useless since no sound will come out of it.
  • The second configuration is when you don't attach the ribbon cable. It simply works like your default switch lite but the HDMI out won't have audio. You can do bluetooth audio to your speaker or you can use the HDMI Mixer that is included in the package to mix audio from the USB port and HDMI video signal into a signal HDMI output. The kit comes with a USB-C + Audio Splitter. For me, this is a hassle to set up and I would just most likely use my Switch/2 for Dock Mode, but I mostly just play this at work so I can plug the thing to a monitor during break time and have the audio on the Switch. It's a win-win for my specific scenario.
4. The installation of the kit in terms of difficulty is 7/10. You need to make sure that you attach all ribbon cables fully or you'll get tons of problems like the screen not lighting up, or the analog stick not registering left and right inputs (I have reopened the device several times due to this oversight).
5. The shell for me doesn't sit close fully. The bigger battery will probably make it worst. I might need to use a crystal case to mask the imperfections.

Recently got ahold of my SUPER5 OLED(+ HDMI) Standard kit, and had it installed.
Shame about how the screen is resolution wise but it's a worthy sacrifice for getting much nicer colours and brightness.
My only gripe with it is the HDMI output is 1080p, as opposed to the native resolution of 720p, I would've thought it'd bypass upscaling directly as I was hoping to get perfect handheld mode capture via my Capture Card...
I did hear something about 1080p output being possible (on the actual screen) via Linux? but it would apparently require reflashing the screen somehow to accept switching between 720p and 1080p??

Unfortunatley, one of the HDMI boards on my 2 kits I ordered was DOA, no help or accountability from Taki as he states it was user error for "not waiting for his guide to come out" or some bollocks and refuses to back down from it. Ironically literally swapping it for the one in my other kit worked. At least I have 2 working OLED Touch screens?
Can't fault people for wanting to do it ASAP, especially those who had theirs come incredibly fast once shipped (30th Dec -> 5th Jan), and his lack of communication and handling really left a sour feeling.

Another point that should be mentioned is the whole shipping process of Super5 OLED is bizarre, to say the least. I ordered a couple of displays waaaay back on September 26th, right at 10am when the product first launched. Since then, everyone and their sister seems to have gotten their display, while I wait patiently for mine. Apparently, the problem was that I ordered one of the display with HDMI, which was a product that was never actually developed. So until HDMI is developed, both displays I ordered are in limbo. They won't even send the one I ordered without HDMI for some reason; I was told orders would not be separated.
my hdmi + oled kit just arrived today its taken so long im not sure i even want it anymore lol i ordered this thing in september 2024

also regarding the softness of the pixels i see people commenting about its not a scaling thing even a 720p oled panel would look softer its the way oleds work they dont use square pixels like an lcd does they use a grid of little circles for rgb, pcs to this day still have issues with fonts looking too smooth because of this, i believe it may have only been fixed in windows a few months ago damn
i didnt notice 720p doesn't integer scale into 1080p thats pretty digusting tbh i hate non integer scaling now im even more unsue if i want to even set this thing up

damn that sucks stupid theyre not gonna help you out either i was excited for this company. at least they finally delivered but theyre not looking great fom a customer service point of view especially with all this preorder mess they shouldnt have even listed these hdmi kits for preorder until the product was actually finished the delays have been mental.

i also ordered 2 originally but asked to have one refunded a couple months back ended up putting it towards a supperstation

I noticed that too on my OLED modded Switch (not the HDMI version). Makes me think they don't put their hardware properly to sleep, pretty frustrating. I guess it wouldn't be impossible to make a board which goes inbetween which cuts power to the OLED5 screen hardware when the screen is supposed to be off. Though I already smell stupid issues with powered IO while the screen is unpowered...

The only way I'm guessing is to do the solder fix. I have ordered the famous Miku battery from SuperBuy, hopefully they deliver. The one from Taki cannot be shipped due to regulations.

this says its for the oled they also show in comparison to hac-003 , too big for the lite im pretty sure

this is for the lite no miku though i want miku lol https://www.superbuy.com/cn/page/buy/?url=https://market.m.taobao.com/app/idleFish-F2e/fish-pc/web/detail.html?id=782001366001&spm=1101.1101.N.N.82f428e

miku switch lite from same seller on xianyu i cant get this link to work on superbuy tho might need another proxy https://www.goofish.com/item?spm=a2...ac2Ly7nog&id=988676794350&categoryId=50025395

same seller has one they claim is 6500mah on taobao https://item.taobao.com/item.htm?abbucket=13&id=979578038821&mi_id=0000faBv_OB6ZCYGEX1XGtwhVCLtwM9rT4Qqmd8lnLr7NMI&ns=1&spm=a21n57.1.hoverItem.4&utparam={"aplus_abtest":"ee81128d551cc319bb8e3c4593a623c9"}&xxc=taobaoSearch&skuId=5947402244572

I contacted the seller on taobao he said the 5200mah miku battery will fit lite with oled mod, the 5650mah is too big for the oled mod

found on aliexpress also may be cheaper than superbuy idk https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005010238276861.html

Apologies, here it is: https://www.superbuy.com/en/page/buy/?url=https://www.goofish.com/item?&id=782005346890&spm=1101.1101.N.N.3e959f1

I just got the previous link from my web history since I can't search it when I did and I thought they were the lite batteries since I saw the Miku logo lol.

I can't see the Aliexpress link, not sure why.
Edit: Now I see it but it costs $100 to me.

What is the solder fix? i have the same Problem with the draining batterie.

Can we get a run down of how this works? It seems like if you can just force docked node and 1080p, everything all pros, no cons? Are there any gotchas or quirks with that though?

Answered my own question looking at the discord. It never runs in 1080p natively unless there's a new firmware on the oled and software on the switch to send commands to the screen.

What people are perceiving as an improvement is just reversenx sending higher quality textures, but still on a 720p non-integer scaled screen. What a bummer.

I bought this screen the day it went on sale, but never got around to installing it, and then I stumbled upon this thread and figured I would keep using my Switch OLED for now. I did notice this tweet which is actually from only a month ago about how 1080p support was added for Android on Switch Lite:

If my understanding is correct, that at least confirms that rendering 1080p in the SUPER5 OLED is already possible today with the Switch Lite hardware and should not require a new display, but it would be nice to get a confirmation that this is not some new hardware. It sounds like it may be a matter of adding support to Hekate and Atmosphere.

Someone asked

> Can this be implemented to hekate/atmosphere in handheld mode?

And Azkali replied

> It will come in hekate at some point, yes, for atmosphere since I am not versed there I cannot say anything about it. Need to discuss this with Taki later

So this seems like a promising development to me. Like everyone else here, I wish they were upfront about this as I may not have purchased it if I knew it was a 1080p display.

So it's a 720p OLED display that can take a 1080p signal and fill the screen?

If that's the case, it should look just fine when playing Switch games. If anything, you get free Anti-Aliasing. Win/Win.

I think that comment may have been a typo. The SUPER 5 OLED is a 1080p screen, but Atmosphere/Horizon is currently capped at 720p output when driving an internal display even if you use ReverseNx to force docked mode. That is the main issue here. If it was a 720p OLED display to begin with, there would be no problem at all.

So currently anything that renders on the internal display on the Switch Lite is rendered at 720p and then when using SUPER5 OLED it is scaled up to 1080p.

The biggest issue I see is that 1080P gaming (even if they fix this) is that it is just not feasible for the Lite to handle. Out of all the revisions, the Lite is the most power limited of them all. It simply cannot handle overclocking to achieve the performance necessary without destroying the battery, and/or just shutting down.

This potential fix is just a band-aid to solve the underlying issue of using a 1080P resolution display.

also: Force games to 720P with cheats/IPS patches -> then make comparisons. It makes no difference if you aren't matching panel resolution on the stock switch to begin with.

Do you resell it ?
