Hi everyone, I hope you’re doing well.

I’m a new user and I don’t have much knowledge about topics like programming, GitHub, or kernels. I basically wanted to dust off my old Nintendo DS Lite to play some games I never finished.

I have a DSTT / TTDS flashcard (photo attached), which I’ve always used to run games without any issues. I hadn’t used the console in years, but when I tried it recently, I ran into a problem: when I select any game, both screens turn completely white and nothing loads.

Up until that point, I hadn’t made any changes to the files; it just started happening out of nowhere. I looked online and found several solutions related to installing different kernels and files. I made a backup and tried multiple options, but none of them worked. In the end, I formatted the memory card and reloaded the original files, but the issue persisted.

I’d like to know if anyone has experience with this type of flashcard and can guide me on what the best solution might be in this case.

Thanks in advance.

First question I'd like to ask; when the system is powered on, does it go straight to the kernel, or does it show a white screen with no 'loading' icon?

And secondly, what kernel did you use on the SD card?

Hi SylverReZ,
Thanks for your reply.

In the video from the original post, you can see how I turn on the console and everything that appears on screen until the white screen issue occurs.

Regarding your second question, the folder containing the files I originally used is called “Menu DSTT v1.18.” That’s the only information I have, as I don’t know how to check the files or their internal contents.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Update

The situation took an unexpected turn. While searching online and on YouTube, I found a video by @RetroGames_Lab (“Install Pico Launcher on your R4”), where they explain the LNH Team’s development for different R4 cards and how to install it.

I installed the files for TTDS and the system ran correctly; however, the games were still showing a white screen. After taking a closer look, I noticed that several icons had visual glitches and their descriptions showed strange characters. This made me think that the issue might be with the game files (.nds).

I decided to download them again, and that turned out to be the problem. It seems that the files got corrupted during the nearly six years I hadn’t used the console. Fortunately, the save files were not affected.

This confirms that the issue was caused by corrupted game files. Even so, it was a good opportunity to try Pico Launcher, which I found to be faster than the “official” R4 kernel.

Sorry if I’m not using very technical language. Thanks a lot, SylverReZ, for your willingness to help.

Best regards!

Please avoid using the official DSTT kernel (being v1.18 for example), there's 'brick code' planted in there that overwrites the firmware in the flashcart which makes it no longer work. The possibility of why it doesn't boot is the kernel that you are using. Now you can fix that with a 3rd-party tool like "DSTTFlashWriter" but this requires a working donor to perform the re-flashing.

For future reference, I would strongly suggest not taking the risk with the official kernel by sticking to alternatives like YSMenu or Pico-Launcher if you can. https://sanrax.github.io/flashcart-guides/cart-guides/dstti/
