Don't want to sound like a hater, because I'm not. The device actually looks pretty cool, so does the EverSD.
But could someone tell me what the actual point is of this device?

Why you would purchase this over the countless retro handheld devices on the market that don't require any fiddling to get certain things working?

Truly a mistery

I would say you're looking at it the wrong way.

If you already are in the Evercade ecosystem, this is a way to get more out of your device without having to carry multiple devices around with you. Not everybody wants to have a bunch of devices. Some would rather stick with one they have/like and extend it's usefulness. Besides that, the biggest advantage to owning one imo is backing up your cartridges since they have a tendency to fail and eventually they wind up irreplaceable after going legacy - unless you're willing to pay many times their retail price on eBay or other secondary markets.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but everyone should also understand that their opinion isn't the only valid one.

I see that the Evercade EXP-R is not in the compatible devices list of Every Patcher.

Is there an issue with this model that prevent from flashing it with another firmware ?

I'm currently trying to use rkdeveloptool to dump a copy of the firmware of my Evercade EXP-R on my computer but I can't make it boot into flash mode. I'm wondering if the new Evercade EXP-R has been enhanced regarding security or if it's just me who is doing something wrong (since I'm following guides for the OG EXP and not the EXP-R).

Because it's legal.

(Although what puzzles me is when people hack Evercades, thus violating both DMCA, and copyright for anything new they put on. If you're going to do that and violate the law *anyway*, you may as well just get a handheld that lets you do it without trouble.)

Yeah, I know.

I was planning on buying an R36 handheld, but someone gifted me an evercade EXP-R before I could...
So I'm trying to put Linux on it because computer science is fun. :)

I found that the evercade EXP-R can be recognized as an USB device if one plug it via its USB-C port to a computer while holding the "Volume UP" button.

From there, one can use rkdeveloptool to get a list of the partitions on the device storage.
There seems to be some things to take care of before simply flashing a cross compiled linux kernel on it, but at least it's a starting point. :yay:
