'Cyberpunk TCG' crowdfunding campaign launches

CD PROJEKT RED is expanding the Cyberpunk 2077 universe through yet another medium: physical trading card games. Named Cyberpunk TCG, it is developed by WeirdCo in close collaboration with CD PROJEKT RED. It tasks players to put together the ultimate edgerunner crew with characters from across the franchise, and pitting them against their opponents in a fight to become a Night City legend.

A crowdfunding campaign via Kickstarter was launched to help mass produce the game, and it has well exceeded its funding goals, with about a month left of the campaign.

The debut Cyberpunk TCG set, Welcome to Night City, will launch later in 2026 and introduce iconic characters from the video game such as V, Jackie Welles, Johnny Silverhand, and Judy Álvarez to the trading card game space. Set 2 will expand the game further, fully introducing characters from the anime spinoff, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.

HELL. TO. THE NO.

Did like everyone just casually forget how CDPR abused the hell out of its staff to the leadup to the absolute shit-pile that was Cyberpunk's launch? Because I didn't.

The fuck do they get off wanting a kickstarter for a card game? benchmarkers have already been buying like 50 copies per every man, woman and child on the planet and sucking their e-dick again and again.

This is as bad a look as how Inafune was trying to start another kickstarter before he was done with Mighty No. 9, and we all saw how that turned out.

CDPR does not deserve the free money. Full stop.

It may be to gauge interest whilst reducing the financial risk.

I can't recall specific examples, but I'm sure other large companies have used crowdfunding in the past for similar reasons.

How much financial risk does a company that brought in over $200M US last year take in creating... a card game? 🤣

No, this is a marketing exercise to generate interest without actually spending money.

I don't get it... a lot of money (and I mean a LOT) from quite a lot of people seems to be already pledged towards some crappy CD Projekt Red big company that itself have a lot of money, which also abused its staff members, misled its own customers to now make some sort of generic trading card game at the same time people have issue with donating emulator developers for their very hard work and expect everything for free up to the point to harass them... I seriously don't get it. World is really upside down.

Given the circumstances, kind of bold for this to exist.... I still haven't even touched the video game in any capacity, and I still don't foresee myself ever owning a copy of said video game.

Who am I kidding though, these probably won't ever exist anyways, like Pokémon cards (looking at you scalpers / price flipping assholes).

I presume you're referring to CDPR? Question is who is taking on the financial burden as officially Weird Co is behind the KS and this seems to be their first project (or at least it's the only one I can find).

I doubt they would go ahead with the launch if the KS failed.

Free marketing also reduces financial costs, again reducing any risk, although we live in an era where you can just send out a PR, put out a post on social media and upload a youtube video for about bugger all and it's Cyberpunk so it's likely to get attention anyway.

l would also stick to profitability as opposed to revenue alone, although from what I've read CDPR were profitable last year by allot.

f the haters
cyberpunk 2077 is literally one of the best video games of all time
I'll consider getting the 2 deck bundle but it's expensive and I just want packs so I might wait until these end up in my local card shop
