Pokemon Elite Redux v2.65 releases as a public beta, includes new tilesets, areas, and more than 60 new Pokemon
Pokemon Elite Redux, an Emerald decompilation hack with a focus on competitive battling, has today received its latest update almost a year after v2.5. This update has been teased for some time now, with information being drip-fed to the community by the development team and a number of YouTubers. Those picking up the hack can expect to find an entirely new difficulty option available to them in Hell Mode, enabling a further level of smart AI on top of illegal movesets and abilities for a genuinely unfair experience. This is mildly balanced by the fact you're able to view your opponent's team during a battle, but should really only be attempted by people who have already had some experience with the previous hardest difficulty, Elite.
Looking past the additional difficulty setting, the game has had a fresh coat of paint, with new tilesets featured throughout. You've also got new areas to explore, more than 60 new Pokemon to encounter, a heap of new Mega Evolutions, and even new settings to speed up the game without having to rely on an emulator. With no complete public changelog at the time of writing the list of changes is something of an unknown, but those interested in the new update can find it on the Elite Redux Discord server. The Elite Redux Patcher is yet to be updated for those not eager to jump onto the server.
