AYANEO Pocket Play gaming smartphone revealed

After teasing its first gaming smartphone earlier this year, AYANEO has shared more details of the device today via the video above. It will be called the AYANEO Pocket Play, and houses physical gaming keys under a sliding mechanism. It looks like a modern Xperia Play and it's no coincidence.

The company hasn't revealed any specs or release date for this phone, but it will likely launch via a crowdfunding campaign and will ship sometime next year at the earliest. AYANEO will share more details in the coming months.

Will the launch of the AYANEO Pocket Play usher the beginning of a new generation of actual gaming smartphones? We'll soon find out if competitors put out versions of a long overdue successor to the Xperia Play.

Hence why I am still on older Devices. Dont like how Designers are wanting to remove MicroSD Slots, Headphone Jacks AND USB-C Ports because People keep trying to use their Devices in Water, like Idiots. Plus wanting to force People to use Cloud Storage, which could get Hacked, possibly.
You know, that makes sense. Wireless charging stations, bluetooth headsets, no expansion slots, and everything else is done through wifi. I thought modern smartphones had at least some waterproofing (basic rain, puddle, and snow exposure), but maybe not.

I'd much rather buy a normal phone and use the upcoming ohsnap MCON attachment with it tbh. Waiting for the reviews of that though

Not to mention, you would think the Batteries would be better protected from defects, like not turning into a "Spicy Pillow". Especially with the new Devices, since Devices should all have the Battery Protection Setting to Limit the Charging to 85%, but not all do. Would just require a Software-Firmware Update

Another one? When was it that they released a device, two weeks ago?

MicroSD slot is my must-have when I buy a smartphone
What new Android phones have SD slots?

I've gotten used to Pixel phones and very happy with it.

Yep, that promo video must have been directed by a 10 year old :rofl2:

I do like PSP Go/Xperia Play slidey vibes, it's satisfying to flip-flop-flip-flop when not in use. However, it feels like they ignored all advancements in portable gaming machines/gadgets and went for a carbon copy of Play's controls. Again, it looks like they cashed in for nostalgia factor more so than usability...

Look at all of that girth. Surely they could have put proper joysticks instead of having all controls be as thin as possible for a thin build. I get that the battery may get in the way, but even then, why not a low profile joystick of some kind, at least?

That's definitely not a "gamer's dream". I'd call it a "nostalgic Xperia Play user's" dream. As a result, however, it does also serve as a phone, which is different from most handhelds out there nowadays.

Also, from the very brief look on the triggers, it looks like they're going to be about as comfortable as pressing volume buttons, but very frequently. That doesn't sound great, but in fairness, they are a little taller than other buttons and may have better switches.

Now THIS make sense to be on GBA temp and not some random thing like an earphones or regular phone.
Anyway...amen! Someone actually made this... Controller sucks, but at least its first of its modern kind.
It's AYANEO these guys release devices like every week or something.

They copied a little too much from the Xperia Play... Did anybody like the trackpad joysticks...? Would've been such a win with something like the sliders used on the 3DS. At least it seems like a solid D-Pad for all the 4:3 games people will be playing on the 18:9(?) screen.

If anything it will hopefully inspire more gaming phones with built-in controls though.
might sony sue based on the veery ckose resemblance to xperia?
