The 3DS eShop seems to be back, with the name 'Brewtendo'. I'm not sure how to install it as of yet, but once installed on your modded 3DS, the eShop and almost all previously available software, themes, and select videos will eventually be available for download, completely for free! I can't find too much information on this project yet, so share anything you know!

Unfortunately it's a closed beta due to server issues I think ;w; I joined their Discord out of curiosity so that's how I know. Approvals appear to be random.

So i'm going to guess this is the service Pretendo publicly denounced.

I guess they found a way to dowload stuff from Nintendo servers again? In that case, no, thnks, i'd rather keep using the green shop wich is hosted in a completely separate server.

I just got my NNID back into my 3DS, not risking it. I'll use it to download my legally owned content and get the rest from anywhere else.

I thought Pretendo said their not part of this? Or is that their way of getting out of it? I personally think it's a really cool concept, I'd use it if it was released. The other 3DS shops are decent, but I'm one who loves keeping things as original as possible, and this concept seems really unbelievable to me!

And it's a great sentiment, i actually prefer it too, but when there's an account system involved i'd rather not touch it, and even if this were working under Pretendo, they already said they'll ban anyone using their system for piracy.

I'm aware of the project that exists for Wii and i'm considering installing it on my Wii U's vWi, but not too keen on this one.

This is the exact issue with pretendo they pretend they are high and mighty and better than the rest

Why ban people over piracy for a system you can’t buy games officially on…also I can tell you for certain there’s a handful of pretendo devs that have nothing but pirated games on their system

I find it a bit strange as well that their banning people with this... I doubt Nintendo cares about people modding a discontinued system, even if we buy the games they won't even make money. I'm sure Pretendo devs used pirated software or something to figure out how to revive online connection.

Oooh! Could you share the name for the Wii's revival? When everyone on GBATEMP talks about trying to revive Nintendo shops, they immediately shut them down... I'd like to see how the Wii Shop looked like when it was functional, unfortunately I was born too late to use the shop...

this is a really cool idea!
If I was to get my 3DS games from somewhere, it would have to be the one that starts with a 'H' that we can't talk about, not some script kiddie revival that'll otherwise be pressured by Nintendo's legal team.
sure, but the concept is very slick.
if it's opensource so that people can host their own eshop servers, that would be amazing.
(and may already be the case -- I haven't checked :D)

It is but is based on shopdeck by Aftendo
Their dev didn't like it, trash talked it on Aftendo Discord, and Brewtendo was shut down soon after
If ever looking to revive use Pretendo's eshop repos on Github

Pretendo has eShop repos?!? How does that work?

If we could do that is be soooo happy! But, unfortunately it's not possible.... YET

BTW it allows for pirated games so please do not talk about it or refer to it here.

I think the same happened to the Wii Shop revival by Yoshibyte but then someone remade it.

Wiimart, and given how long has been since the WSC closed and how some games are exclusive and trapped there, i'm seriously considering it, if only for the experience.

Developers intent.

I know it's hard to understand for some people (like an Azahar setup tutorial i caught last night where the youtuber outright gave rom download sources, when the Azahar devs are agaisnt piracy) but some if not most devs of mods, emulators and service restoration projects do it out of love for the source, and from the perspective of the user owning the games and platforms in question.

It should't come to no one's surprise that you can import your NAND dump into Dolphin, or your system files into Azahar and Cemu. Hell, i have a full backup of my NNID and eShop account on Cemu, and Artic Base is the whole point of Azahar!

It's not a matter of being high and mighty, but of having principles.

If there's a way to get stuff from other regions then I'm game. I was collecting Ace Attorney themes when freeShop stopped working and having to use Anenome is not a suitable replacement (since I would need to download ALL of my themes in a format that works with Anenome).

This is the exact sort of bootlicking behavior that I take umbrage with when homebrew communities are explicitly saying they decry piracy not simply to cover their ass if anyone came sniffing around but genuinely because "we do not tolerate that." Whenever I bring this up the response I get from other people is the ass-covering explanation but I know for a fact there exist homebrew devs who are actually hardline about their work only being used for legitimate uses and they consider anyone using their work to do something unauthorized with a system (regardless of its age or market accessibility) to be abhorrent.

I remember having some similar sentiments about Sylverant (the PSO fan server) requiring people to have valid license keys. You can still play on it without a license key but just think how limiting that is if you need ACTUAL license keys from the time to play on a fanmade server where getting as many people to play as possible should be the goal twenty-plus years after the game's heyday.

I understand having principles but don’t be a hypocritical about them and ban people from your community (I know it’s not you specifically) when caught

When the lead devs are doing the exact same thing themselves.

I mean. It's their service, they decide how they want it to be used. Being homebrew doesn't mean having no rules.

Plus their issue isn't piracy, but using Pretendo Network for piracy. They want nothing of that, and i think that deserves some respect.
