    Unfortunately the whole game/app is built from the roots to be online-only. All damage calculations etc. are done server-side. So even the single-player tutorial battles are online-only (and private battles between two friends are also online-only).

    No, the backup exception was added by the DMCA. Before then, multiple courts said that making backup copies of game carts was illegal.

    Be really careful what you wish for. The DMCA is what made it legal to backup copies of your own games. Third party according to the official reddit post; someone other than nintendo and TPC but still real.

    Thanks! I thought it was already implemented though - the Xbox software can detect a first-party controller vs a non-first-party one, it's just choosing to display a message for now instead of fully ignoring the controller. I'm wondering how this detection that's already there is implemented.
